Alpaca fibers,as one of the most important animal protein fibers,are discovered to possess a high moisture absorption,a good elasticity,a strong warmth retaining and an excellent breathability,which leads it to be one of the favorite materials of designers in area of textile.As to alpaca industry in China,domestic research is rare and its application is still on the initial stage of primary market development and exploration.As a nature protein fiber,studying how the fiber surface scale structure affect its' dyeing,an-static and felt property is becoming crucial to fulfill such a gap.Therefore the following research were conducted:1.Study how alpaca fiber surface scale structure may affect its' felt property by testing and analyzing its' SEM,strength,friction,color and shrinkage resistance after being treated with UV lights and protease.Experimental results show that alpaca fiber would have a better shrinkage resistance after exposed by a certain wavelength of ultraviolet for different periods of time,however we can not find any obvious changes on the surface of alpaca when using SEM.After further processing with enzyme treatment,it turns out that alpaca fibers may have an obvious promotion in fibers' felt property,especially damages of scales can easily be discovered when using SEM,which indicates that UV may have a positive effect on enzyme treatment by destroying scale structure and promoting the amount of protease going into fibers' inner layer.Therefore eventually we can get a best shrinkage resistance.2.Study how scale structure has influence on its' dyeing property by using UV/protease and DCCA/protease before treated with acid red dye.Final results show that the more efficient we remove the scales,better dyeing properties we will obtain.3.Study how scale structure can make great achievements in alpaca fiber or fabric's anti-static property by analyzing its' resistance,interaction voltage and half-life period after be treated with different kinds of anti-static agents or removing its' scale before washing for 20 times.Results show that the anti-static agents can give alpaca better anti-static properties immediately,however after washing for 20 times the effect of anti-static may reduce a lot.For permanent effect,we need to treat the fiber by removing its' scale to influence its' friction.4.Knitted fabric which is made from yarns mixed with alpaca and acrylic fibers at 3 blending ratios of 100/0/,50/50 and 30/70 will be tested and studied in its' warmth,breathability and strength.By coating chemical agents on the surface or removing the scales can we study how the alpaca fiber's scale structure can affect its' felt,dyeing,anti-static properties.At the same time,we can provide future alpaca application in textile manufacture or fashion.
