Pleat is endowed with strong vitality in the history of the development of clothing.No matter when it comes to clothing for men or women’ clothing for palace or folk costumes,traditional costumes or modern ones,oriental costumes or western ones,various forms of pleat modeling can be found out.In some periods of time,it has subverted the traditional styles and led the tendency of fashion for many times,so it is of great significance to promote the continuous progress of clothing history.The unique style of pleat can make the clothing filled with more sense of hierarchy,stereoscopic sense,sense of volume and sense of formation,therefore,the audience will receive a very strong sense of visual impact in this regard.The creative placement and stacking made by designers and the pleated design with complex structure and strong sense of three-dimension make it become the combination of "margin" and "change",which has added the sense of rhythm and dynamics of clothing(especially the women clothing).Since the designers are required to take into account many problems as the effect of the overall layout,hierarchy and array of small and big pleats and the fabric softness and glossiness onpleat-making ability and pleat forms etc,the design of pattern structure is often complex and messy,lack of coherent norm.In other words,pleating is the preferred style of fashion designer and the circle of fashion,but how to appropriately use it to achieve the high integration of functions and visual aesthetics and make the traditional process modeling be in line with the contemporary aesthetic tendency and even influence it has become an important subject in the field of research.In recent years,the research of pleat carried out by entrepreneurs in the industry is more reflected in part or the whole decoration of clothing.They highlight on the design and expression of decorative effect,moreover,some scholars focus on the analysis of the characteristics and effects of various pleats.According to the above research,this paper takes human forms as the basis and the development of pleats as the based to introduce the original form of the pleat.Further,the horizontal comparison of the eastern and western traditional pleat styles is carried out to explain the application of the fork clothing and palace clothing and the change of aesthetic trend of social clothing reflected by it.According to the design principle of pleat structure,the design and application of pleat in modern women’s clothing studied.The process of "generation-design-application" in women’s clothing design is manifested through sorting out of pleat forms and structure,the supplement of case experiment and the pattern description and analysis.Then,its change and evolution in women ’ s clothing are shown as well.It also makes combination of theory and practice to clarify the context,determining the specification so that the development and evolution process of the pleat modeling is more clearly displayed.In particular,it gives details analysis in experiment level for the key and tough points of pleat design in paper drawing,which is conductive to provide useful inspiration for designers to better grasp the pleat plane effect and pattern drawing of pleats.Additionally,the the application of pleat in traditional costumes and modern costumes is based on fabric characteristics,resulting in different morphological characterization in this way.Therefore,the effects of difference of fabric properties on pleat modeling is also the highlight in this paper.Pleating is not only a decorative approach,but also a tool to shape the modern design style,can be a perfect change in the original clothing attributes and form,to achieve artistic and functional unity,the dull design becomes novel And rich three-dimensional layering,is acombination of plane and three-dimensional point.Therefore,the purpose of this paper is to analyze and summarize the performance and characteristics of pleats in the design and application of the garment structure,and to study more pleat performance forms.Provide a more powerful theoretical basis,in order to enhance the pleat shape in the practical application of the field to provide a reference.
