| China is the world’s largest energy producer and consumer, at the same time is also the world’s largest producer and consumer of Coal. Due to the specific circumstances, Coal will still be the major energy structure in a long time. The new "Environmental Protection Law of the People’s Republic of China"(2014) and "Emission Standard of Pollutants for Coking Chemical Industry"(GB 16171-2012), have been carried out on Jan.1,2015, "Allows Entry Conditions of Coking Chemical Industry"(2014) says "the utilization rate of Coke Oven Gas(COG) is not lower than 98%". The research and industrial application of COG advanced purification process and its associated catalysts is the key technology of recycling and using of by-product COG.The design, research and industrial application of commercial advanced purification technology process and its associated catalysts are reported, the analysis of deactivation industrial catalyst and the improvements of catalyst and process are also discussed in this paper. A novel advanced purification technology process named "low temperature adsorbed section and medium temperature two-stage hydrotreating section" has been firstly proposed, which would solve the problem of the COG deep purification. The COG advanced purification process flowsheet, the activation and start-up scheme of catalysts, industrial application and operation data of the unit for coking enterprises are introduced. The deactivate industrial catalyst was analyzed by crush strength analysis, ignition lost analysis, X-ray Fluorescence(XRF), Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry (MIP), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy(XPS), Raman Spectroscopy (Raman). The super desulfurizer was produced, consisting of zinc oxide as the main active component, adding copper oxide additives for modification, combined with pseudo-boehmite, high-alumina cement, etc. It has high crush strength and high specific surface area. After purification, the sulfur content in the treated COG is less than 20 ppb. The impurities of COG(such as tar, benzene, naphthalene, ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, etc) are almost adsorbed via Temperature Swing Adsorption(TSA) purification technology. It lengthens the service life and activity of the hydrotreating catalyst. Consideration of economic benefit, catalyst performance, operation and safety, zinc oxide desulfurizer is employed in medium temperature first-stage desulfurization reactor is a wise choice, instead of iron manganese desulfurizer.Practical industrial applications prove that the COG advanced purification technology process and its associated catalysts are mature and reliable. Process route can be safe and stable, efficient and long period running, the impurities content and the total sulfur content in the treated gas can fully meet the down-stream procedure’s requirements. |
