The compositions of effluent gases from methane synthesis process are CO and H2. Both kinds of gases are flammable and combustible, so it will result in casualties, biologicial environment destrory and economic loss if lacking of security management. Therefore, the author conducts a comprehensive study on the safety of methanation process, analyzes the potential risk factors and proposes the related security measures which have an important effect on the safe production of methane.From the perspective of long-term safe operation of methanation device, this paper introduced the HAZOP method to conduct the safety analysis on methanation and conducted the LOPA analysis by HAZOP method. By means of this LOPA analysis, it was deduced that whether the current technology protective layer measures were effective or not it could enhance the further protective measures for the inadequate protective layer as well as keep away from the accidents and satisfy the requirements of safe operation.From the HAZOP analysis on methanation process, we can find that the shortcomings of safety measures in technological design. This article will further propose the countermeasures to reduce or eliminate the risk factors in the system operation and ensure the long-term stable operation of methanation unit.
