Costume Design Studies Based On The Principle Of Optical Illusion

People in the modern society are pursuing more personalisation and creativity.Visual illusion art in its way of unique and original form has broadened space for development of costume design area,brought brand new visual experience.Visual illusion shares a direct relationship with costume,involves feelings about alignment,angle,shape,colour and error of distance estimation,etc.Therefore,apply visual illusion art into costume design is significant for clothing industry,with continually explore and research on the new thoughts,new innovation and new ideas of design.Among all different types of manifestation of visual illusion,the visual effect resulting from different forms of “lines” can enrich the visual language of costume design to a large extent.It also contains important implications and values to improvement of physical shape and dressing individuation.Male windbreaker is one of the most frequently used garment types in people's daily life.Adding in ‘visual illusion' gives male windbreaker unique modality aesthetics,newfangled visual arts charism,and most importantly has the effect on flattering figure.Henri Matisse once said that ‘lines are to resort to the soul,colours are to resort to the feelings.So you should start with drawing lines,only until your soul gets developed through trial and suffering,it can then guide colours onto another reasonable way”,it clearly tells the importance of ‘lines' to design.Therefore,this paper will analyse and conclude systematically on the structure and design of male windbreakers on the base of visual illusion theories.The content will be separated into six chapters,the fourth and the fifth chapter are the core part and innovation points of this article.These two chapters emphasise on analysis of,with combination of form illusion from visual illusion and the design of male windbreakers,the usage of different forms of ‘lines' in terms of visual illusion within the applications of male windbreakers and different visual effects that can be generated,on the base of theoretical research in the first few chapters.Then draw conclusion,using the application practices in the fifth chapter to test the hypothesis on the feasibility of applying visual illusion as one form of brand new design element into the design of male windbreakers.On the one hand,use development of male windbreaker's style and design inspirations,widened visual field of design and innovation thinking to form a new design philosophy,and then achieve new breakthroughs of male windbreaker's design.One the other hand,in order to meet dressers' psychological needs better,perform visual illusion on the design of male windbreakers most effectively,and to achieve the objective of remarkable figure flattering with costumes.
