When people tend to pursue individuation and creativity in the modern era of pictures, theillusion art expands the development space of visual art and design with a new and peculiar form,and it brings a new visual experience. The silk scarf is one of the clothes used commonly inpeople’s daily life, and when optical illusion graphic as a new blood injected into scarf patterndesign, which can make a unique form of beauty and strange, different,interesting visual artisticcharming, and especially when combined with all types of modern software that consist graphicdesign and artistic effects procession, it must have great vision and economic benefits. In thispaper, preliminarily research on the design of scarf patterns based on illusion principle, and itfocus on the illusion graphics used into design of scarf patterns as a new element. On one hand,it will extend the styles and themes in the scarf patterns, and pioneer design vision and creativemind, then form a new design concept. On the other hand, it meets the demand of the marketsand customers, and conforms to the individualized development in the silk scarf industry.n this article, firstly, theoretically analyses and summarizes the concept and characteristicsof optical illusion art, and methods to classify it. Secondly, defines the concept of the designwhich based on the principle of optical illusion, and analyses the present situation of severalkinds of classic pattern designs (including the patterns’categories and artistic features), of whichthe cases of domestic and foreign brands are shown as well. On that basis, the originality of thepatterns can be certain explored. Then, according to the theoretical basis and analysis,summarizes methods to apply the principle of optical illusion in the pattern design. And detailedstudies are shown, which are about design methods of points, lines, areas, color, composition andperformance practices of secondary processing. Finally, under the precondition of marketresearch and theme positioning, with Shanghai tourism souvenir and board for the theme, ofscarf pattern design and development practice. Then some creative expressions of the opticalillusion principle and serializations are deeply dug into and effectively grasped. It proves to be feasible to apply the principle of optical illusion, as design inspiration and material, in the designof silk scarf patterns. And the scarf pattern design conforms to the consumers’ aesthetic demandof individuation, and leads the consumers to a country filled with visual attraction andinterestingness. This proves the use of the optical illusion art as the principle of scarf patterndesign and development not only feasible, but also for the development of scarf pattern designtrain of thought to have certain market value.
