Compared to traditional solvent-based alkyd resins,waterborne alkyd resins display some disadvantages in terms of properties,so it is necessary to carry out the modification.The present study is a contribution to the preparation of modified waterborne alkyd resins by linseed oil,1,1,1-tris(hydroxymethyl)propane and o-phthalic anhydride with the addition of sulfonate prepolymer which contained 5-sulfoisophthalic acid sodium salt and acrylic prepolymer which contained methylacrylic acid,methyl methacrylate,n-butyl acrylate and styrene.The effect of category and amount of materials on the storage stability of waterborne alkyd resins were investigated,and the effect of sulfonate prepolymer on the water dispersibility and water resistance of waterborne alkyd resins and films were also investigated,together with the effect of acrylic prepolymer on the properties of the waterborne alkyd resins and films,and it was found that with the increase of acrylic prepolymer,the storage stability of waterborne alkyd resins and the drying properties and hardness of films were improved.In order to further improve the properties of waterborne alkyd resin and films,the present study made a contribution to the preparation of attapulgite/waterborne alkyd resins nanocomposites.The surface of attapulgite was cleaned,activated with acid and modified with 3-glycidyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane(KH560).The structure of modified attapulgite was characterized by infrared spectroscopy,and it revealed that KH560 was successfully grafted on the surface of rod-like attapulgite,and the crystal structure of modified attapulgite has not been changed.The effect of modified attapulgite on the properties of composite resins and films were investigated,it was found that with the increase of attapulgite,the storage stability of waterborne alkyd resins and the drying properties,hardness,chemical resistance and thermal stability of films were further improved.
