Shape-Conforming and Opening(SCO) is needed during the design of pad, which is a component of automobile panel die, in the process of trimming or flanging for the purpose of improving stamping quality, decreasing material costs and reducing die manufacturing time. It's difficult to design SCO for die because of the diversity and complexity of automobile panel. Without standards, designers usually rely on their own experiences when design SCO for die. However, a lot of operations on curves and surfaces are involved and this means lots of time when design CSO, and sometimes the design work even cannot be completed for limits of design software. Hence, develop intelligent aid tools for the design of SCO of die are important and significant to the improvement of die design quality and the reduction of design cycle in the die design stage.According to the needs of intelligence aid in the process of design SCO for dies in Mould Corporations, this paper analyzed current statues of intelligence assist tools for automobile panel die design and developed an intelligence SCO system(CATIA-ISCOS) based on CATIA platform for automobile panel die.This paper discussed development tool CAA and other related technologies needed for CATIA-ISCOS. System framework and workflow is first formulated according to actual needs, then system interface and detail functions are ensured after discussion with engineers and designers.Discussion was concentrated on several key technologies applied in this system. Virtual display, which can decrease system memory burden and improve system response speed, was applied to preview and adjust result of curves offset. Before enclose operation on curves set, dimensionality reduction through project curves to plane was completed. Curves set enclosed tech handled several situations, including separation, intersection and superposition. An algorithm based on inside-outside point trimming for polygon boolean operation was proposed and developed to handle inside boundary of SCO solid, but ultimately three-dimension boolean operation was applied instead for the demand of update synchronized. Besides, boundary curves of SCO solid were smoothed so it can be good for die manufacuring. Parameterization and publish technology, which realized real time update at part level and assemble level, can subtract knowledge from design experience in order to plug them in SCO design process and solve the problem of synchronized update while adjust the design of SCO of die. The result is the improvement of SCO design for die.Finally, taking inner plate of automobile as example, CATIA-ISCOS carried on SCO design for die of trimming and punching process and display the function of synchronized update. The result of experiments verified the effectivity of the system.
