Taxonomic Study On The Stenus Rugosipennis Group And Its Allied Group From China

Stenus rugosipennis group,Stenus viridanus group and Stenus scopulus group(Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Steninae: Stenus)are similar in habitus by sharing many morphological characters.They are small groups of the genus and can be found in varial habitats.Members of these three groups are mainly distributed in the oriental regions and are predatory on small insects.They play important roles in ecosystem and food chain,and are important to ecological equilibrium.Before this study,21 species of Stenus rugosipennis group,9 species of Stenus viridanus group and 9 species of Stenus scopulus group have been known worldwide.Among them,19 species of Stenus scopulus group and 6 species of Stenus viridanus group and 7 species of Stenus viridanus group were known from China.Based on an examination of all related references and over 461 specimens collected from several provinces of China,the taxonomy of these three genus is studied with results summarized as the following:1.Nineteen species of Stenus rugosipennis group and its allied group are recognized from China,among them,10 species belong to the Stenus rugosipennis group,of which one specie is new to science : Stenus rugosivestis Puthz,2009 from Xizang,Stenus calcariventris Puthz,1980 from Yunnan and Hainan,Stenus ruginosipennis Puthz,2009 from Sichuan,Stenus ruidirugulosus Zhao & Zhou,2005 from Fujian,Zhejiang and Guizhou,Stenus ruginositogatus Puthz,2009 from Xizang,Stenus rugosivestitus Puthz,2009 from Xizang,Stenus.rugatipennis Puthz,2009 from Sichuan,Stenus liushengnanae sp.nov.,from Fujian,Stenus wuyimontium Puthz,2003 from Zhejiang,Jiangxi,Guangxi,Fujian,Stenus tangliangi Puthz,2009 from Xizang;6 species of Stenus viridanus group,of which 2 species is new to science(published): Stenus liuyei Gao & Tang,2017 from Yunnan,Stenus panyuhongae Gao& Tang,2017 from Hainan,Stenus cyanogaster Rougemont,1983 from Yunnan and Guangxi,S.viridanus Champion,1925 from Zhejiang,Jiangxi,Shaanxi,Guizhou,Hubei,Chongqing,Sichuan and Yunnan,Stenus viridivestis Puthz,2008 from Xizang,S.viridicans Puthz,2008 from Sichuan;3 species of Stenus scopulus group,Stenus scopulus Zheng,1992 from Sichuan and Shaanxi,Stenus vorticipennis Feldmann,2007 from Sichuan,Stenus variunguis Feldmann,2008 from Qinghai and Sichuan.2.All the species were described in detail,and their sexual characters were illustrated.The colour photos for most species were also given.The history,collecting techniques,and major diagnostic characters of the species were discussed.3.Keys to species of all studied three groups are given.4.A catalog of Stenus rugosipennis group and its allied group of the world is given.
