With the development of society and science technology, people acquire more ability to understand and imitate the world. Geographical modeling and simulation as effective and scientific method to analyze the earth system plays a more important role in geography study. Facing with various kinds of geographical issues, many geographical models are developed to describe reality and predict future development.On the other hand, continuous progress of geo-modeling also result in more complexity and diffculty for people to understand and use models. Also, on-going application and development bring about much spatio-temporal information of geographical models. Traditional metadata focus on attrubute description, and application and development information cannot be fully described. As a result,researchers always spend much time collecting complete information about geographical models. Due to professional and domain-relevance of geo-modeling, the scientific using of models greatly depends on understanding related knowledge.Uniform description of application and development information comprehensively express geographical models. Through this, researchers can deeply understand and use geographical models.Based on characteristics of model application and development, this study designs spatio-temporal lineage to implement general description of geographical models, and overcome shortcomings and deficiencies of traditional model metadata.In this case, researchers can better know and understand models. The main reseach contents and results are structured as follows:(1) Analysis of application and development factors of geographic model and their relationship. This paper summarizes the general characteristics of geography model application and development with different research fields and complexities,and then analyzes the basic elements and their relationships in describing the application and development of geographical model, to provide theoretical foundation for this study.(2) Spatio-temporal data modeling of geographic model application and development information. Based on the basic elements,the paper analyzes the time and spatial information in the application and development of the geographical model,and constructs the spatial model of the geography model to standardize the application and development of the model. And through the spatio-temporal data modeling method of application and development information to implement structured expression and store and manage the data.(3) Designment of model application and development information extraction method. Aiming at the solving problems existing in current collecting application and development information about geography models. Also, information extraction strategy based on scientific literature and the mass - based collection method based on VGI concept are designed to improve the efficiency of information collecting.(4) Set up a space-time lineage display platform based on open network environment. In view of the difficulty of knowledge sharing in geography model, this paper designs the open information display platform to realize the rapid sharing of geography model application and development information. And SWAT model with long history of development, complex structure and a large number of applications is used as a research case to verify designed the space-time lineage.Based on the knowledge needs of the current geography model, this paper attempts to design the unified description of the application of geography model and development information, to reduce the cost of the researcher's acquisition of model knowledge and improve the researcher's awareness and the efficiency of the using geographical models. At the same time, spatial-temporal lineage can also be used to sort out the relationship among geography models and support the integration and sharing of the geographic models, which has high theoretical and practical value.
