In this study,we deployed 30 infrared cameras in Huaping Nature Reserve from October 2013 to March 2014 and 32 infrared cameras in Nonggang Nature Reserve from No vember 2014 to April 2015 with the same density of one camera per 1 km2 to monitor the large and medium-sized mammals and forest birds.This study compared in mammal and bird species composition,fauna and residence situation,the relative abundance of species,activity pattern and trapping rate and so on in two Nature Reserve and aimed at further understanding wildlife resources in Nonggang and Huaping Nature Reserve and discussing the difference of species diversity and ecological behavior and the reason for the difference between limestone habitat in Nonggang and non-limestone habitat in Huaping and providing valuable data for monitoring population change of the large and medium-sized mammals and forest birds and the future research and protection magement in different habitats.The main results are as follows:1.We identified 17 mammal species and 20 bird species from the camera traps in Nonggang Nature Reserve.One species was category I state key protected wild animals and six species were category II state key protected wild animals.Based on the relative abundance index,Edward's long-tailedrat(Leopoldamys edwardsi),Asiatic Brush-tailed Porcupine(Ather-urus macrourus),North tree shrews(Tupaia belangeri),Red Muntjac(Muntiacus muntjak)and Chinese ferret badger(Melogale moschata)were ranked as the top six most abundant mammal species.Silver pheasant(Lophura nycthemera),Violet whistling thrush(Myophonus caeruleus),Blue-rumped Pitta(Pitta soror)and Grey-backed Thrush(Turdus hortulorum)were ranked as the top four most abundant bird species.And we identified 15 mammal species and 19 bird species from the camera traps in Huaping Nature Reserve.One species was category I state key protected wild animals and five species were category II state key protected wild animals.Based on the relative abundance index,Edward's long-tailedrat(Leopoldamys edwardsi),Red legs long kiss squirrel(Dremomys pyr,rhomerus),Red-bellied Tree Squirrel(Callosciurus erythraeus),Chinese ferret badger(Melogale moschata),Small muntjak(Muntiacus reevesi)and Hidden lines squirrel(Tamiops swinhoei)were ranked as the top six most abundant mammal species.Silver pheasant(Lophura nycthemera),red-billed leiothrix(Leiothrix lutea),Violet whistling thrush(Myophonus caeruleus)and Tabby ground thrush(Zoothera dauma)were ranked as the top four most abundant bird species.2.There was no significant variation in unit capture rate and trapping rate of the same species between limestone habitat in Nonggang and non-limestone habitat in Huaping(P>0.05).However,the trapping rate of birds in Huaping Nature Reserve was higher than Nonggang Nature Reserve,it may be affected by population quantity and food resource in different habitats.3.Shannon-Wiener index,Evenness index and G index of mammal in Nonggang Nature Reserve were higher than Huaping Nature Reserve,but F index and G-F index of mammal were just the opposite.In addition,Shannon-Wiener index,Evenness index,F index and G-F index of bird in Huaping Nature Reserve were higher than Nonggang Nature Reserve.To some extent,the diversity of mammal in Nonggang Nature Reserve were higher and the diversity of bird was just the opposite.It may be affected by habitat quality,interference situation and food resource,etc.4.The highest diversity of mammal in Huaping Nature Reserve was in shaded slope area,as for Nonggang Nature Reserve,however,it was in half-sunny and half shaded slope area.This may be directly affected by habitat differences.The diversity of mammal in Huaping Nature Reserve was higher in over the hillside area,showing an unimodal distribution pattern.But,The diversity of mammal in Nonggang Nature Reserve was higher in halfway up the hill and near the mountaintop area,showing a hump distribution pattern.In addition,The diversity of bird in Huaping Nature Reserve was lowest in low altitude area,foot of the hill,but it was just the opposite in Nonggang Nature Reserve.It may be affected by distributional difference of food resource in space and in time and human disturbance.5.Activity pattern of the same advantage species in Nonggang and Huaping Nature Reserve were similar,Red-bellied Tree Squirrel and Silver pheasant were diurnal animals,Chinese ferret badger and Edward's long-tailedrat were nocturnal animals.The activity peak of diurnal animals were about 2 hours earlier in Huaping Nature Reserve than in Nonggang Nature Reserve,but for nocturnal animals,they were just the opposite.It may be related to the difference of the illumination time with different latitude.As for the difference of activity peak size,it may be affected by food resource and its seasonal variation and the relative abundance of animals.
