Huairou emergency water source has been exploited since 2003.Due to years of small precipitationand super-size operation, the regional groundwater level and aquifer yield reduced continuously. With the development of the water supply situation in Beijing, this work has done from the aspects of groundwater conservation and sustainable water-supply to ensure the ability of "emergency water supply" in Huairou emergency water source.On the basis of full collection and use of existing data and research results, this work has achieved the following key results throughout two and a half yearsinvestigation and study:(1) By comprehensive analyzingyears of operation profile and regional hydrogeological conditions, this study analyzed the main problems existing inHuairou emergency water source. It provided basic information for the rational development and sustainable utilization of regional water resource.(2) By a detailed investigation of the regional groundwater regulation and conservation, this study identified the current conditions of groundwater recharge in research area, and chose the best place for recharging. It provided basic information for the optimization of recharging site selection.(3) For the changes of aquifer system in the study area, this work used the "movable surface technology(BASD technology)" to process the structure of the aquifer, established the regional three-dimensional groundwater flow model, so that the model top was always consistent with the water table. In this way, the established groundwater numerical model met the status quo of the hydrogeological conditions. The model is validated and verified, and the model basically reflects the water flow characteristics of the groundwater system in the model area.(4) According to the preliminary water distribution planafter south-north water diversion into Beijing, this work used the three-dimensional groundwater flow model for the simulation of water conservation in Huairou emergency water source. It provided a basis for programs development in regionalgroundwater resources conservation and hot-standby operation at Huairou emergency water source.
