Termites belonging to Infraorder Isoptera, Order Blattaria, Class Insecta, is by far the oldest social insects on the earth, which is at least 130 million years ago. Currently there are 12 families and more than 3,000 species worldwide(including fossil species). But in China there are 477 species recorded, mainly distributied in southern China, and there are only about 50 species found in Guizhou. The paper summarized the research progress at home and abroad about termite classification, biology and economics and carried out the research work about termite taxonomy in Guizhou based on the specimens collected during 2013-2016 and specimens from other institutes, further more, the faunal c characteristics of termites in Guizhou was also analysized. The results are as follows:The first, taxonomy of termites in Guizhou. On a total of 18 collection spots in Guizhou Province, more than 470 specimens were collected, and 5 families, 15 genera and 56 species were identified, including 8 new-record species to Guizhou:Reticulitermes leptomandibularis Hsia et Fan, 1965;Reticulitermes flavipes(Kollar, 1837);Reticulitermes microcephalus Zhu, 1984;Reticulitermes pingjiangensis Tsai et Peng, 1983;Reticulitermes leptogulus Ping et Xu, 1981;Reticulitermes croceus Ping et Xu, 1982;Nasutitermes parvonasutus(Shiraki, 1911);Nasutitermes gardneri Snyder, 1933.Make clear 1 New Synonyms: Pericapritermes jangtsekiangensis(Kemner, 1925) is synonym of Pericapritermes nitobei(Shiraki, 1909).In addition, this paper also gave out the keys of families, genera and species found in Guizhou. The second, faunal analysis. The faunal analysis results showed that the Oriental distribution is 94.64%, the Oriental-Palaearctic distribution is 5.36%. And in China fauna, Central region has the most species richness(76.79% and 43 species); the Central-South China region is the second(19.64% and 11 species);the North China-Central-South China Region is only 2 species(3.08%).The paper further enriched termite species in Guizhou, discussed its faunal characteristics, and provided base knowledge for future taxonomic studies in Guizhou and even in China.
