Chongqing has been ambitious to upgrade itself into the most open inland economy, of which world class brands are a tangible sign and components. This mission has been made particularly hard against the backdrop of a downward world economy since the global financial crisis when Chongqing consequently faces low-level competition and product homogenization with few high-end brands. It is believed to be an inevitable path for cities like Chongqing if it hopes for foreign trade growth, in both quantity and quality, and industrial upgrading to have some world class products and brands by nourishing some local quality products.This essay features theoretical and practical research on Chongqing’s brand strategy from a comparative approach with seven years brand management experience in the municipal government. It starts from Chongqing’s current situation before pragmatic advice an evaluation system are proposed based upon analysis of statistics.
