China’s manufacturing industry is facing "Double pressures" from both developed countries and developing countries in the whole process of participating in the production of global value chain. It’s one of the most important issues to accurately measure the position of China’s manufacturing in and thus update it and therefore actualize the transformation and upgrading of China’s manufacturing industry, and this is also the focus of the research in this thesis.This thesis first summarizes the literature of the value chain theories, the upgrading of the position of value chain of China’s manufacturing industry and the measuring methods of value chain. Then this thesis analyses the trends of the position of China’s manufacturing industry as a whole and from the sub-industry level, and compare them with other countries, and accurately measures the position of value chain of China’s manufacturing industry. Furthermore, by using panel data, this thesis empirically studies the position of China’s manufacturing industry by selecting the R&D input, factor structure, the dependency degree of manufacturing on production services, corporate size and market environment as explanatory variables. The empirical study consists of two parts:the first part makes a regression analysis of the factors that impact the value chain of China’s manufacturing industry as a whole, and the second part makes a regression analysis of the sub-industries of different production factor densities based on the heterogeneity of the value chain of China’s manufacturing industry. Then this thesis explores the in-depth reasons of the position of value chain of China’s manufacturing industry. In the end, this thesis concludes and makes policy recommendations for upgrading the value chain position of China’s manufacturing industry from four aspects.
