With the development of high-speed railway construction, planning and development of high speed rail stations and the surrounding area have become opportunities for the city along the route. However, there are still some issues such as poor accessibility, land wasting and inefficient development within a specific range of high speed rail stations and the surrounding area (high speed rail station area). Transit-Oriented-Development (TOD) application on planning and construction of high-speed rail and the surrounding area is a way to achieve joint development of high-speed rail stations and the surrounding land, buildings, business, etc., and to a maximize the value of scarce urban land resources.Based on TOD theory, rail transportation TOD, coordination mechanism as well as relationship between transportation and land, the paper establishes the logical framework of coordination mechanism, and makes analysis. The paper believes that play an important role in safeguarding the development of land and transportation, and transportation hub construction and land development promote each other; coordination mechanism, transportation hub planning and land development are three important conditions for high speed rail station area under TOD. TOD practices such as Lille station, Nagoya Station and Berlin Central Station are good examples. The paper focuses on analyzing status description on some of high speed rail station areas in China and problems of application conditions. Then the paper makes suggestions such as accelerating the establishment of the comprehensive planning and management system, establishing high-speed rail station commercial development mechanism, learning and accumulating experience on integrated development of land and developing the station area from long-term vision.The conclusions are as follows:Firstly, coordination mechanism, high speed rail station transportation hub construction, development of commercial space in high speed rail station building as well as high-strength and multi-purpose pattern of land development are guarantee condition, basic condition and promoting condition. Secondly, high speed rail station TOD lacks or even does not have:coordination mechanism condition, transportation hub condition and land development condition. Besides, downside macroeconomic environment also needs to be taken into account. The lack of conditions leads to "dispersion surrounding" pattern, instead of TOD mode. Thirdly, there are several high speed rail station areas which plan and develop well, such as Shanghai Hongqiao Station, but it still needs to be improved.
