Over the past 30 years of reform and opening up, equipment manufacturing industry has been occupying an important position in the national economy and national defense construction. However, in some areas, the core technology of equipment manufacturing industry in China rely on imports, the development of key components lag and regional development imbalances and other issues still exist. In order to realize this change, we must make clear the intensity of industrial agglomeration and select the appropriate technology progress path. Although technology progress path selection on the equipment manufacturing industry in China is rarely studied, but basically did not consider regional factor endowments and industry characteristics influence on the technology progress path selection, at the same time, study on the relationship between the industrial agglomeration and technology progress path is still blank. Therefore, continue to explore technology progress path selection on the equipment manufacturing industry in China considering on the regional factor endowments and industrial characteristics, and on this basis, study on the relationship between the industrial agglomeration and technology progress path selection on the equipment manufacturing industry in China has important theoretical significance and practical significance.In this paper, we select the data of seven industries of equipment manufacturing industry in 31 provinces and autonomous regions of China, and study the relationship between industrial agglomeration and technology progress path selection on the equipment manufacturing industry in China. Firstly, theoretical analysis is carried out. As follows: based on the analysis of technology progress path selection theory, constructing theory analysis framework of technology progress path selection coupling regional factor endowment structure and industry characteristics, based on that, combined with industrial agglomeration theory, analyses the theoretical mechanism between the industrial agglomeration and technology progress path selection. Theoretical analysis shows that the regional factor endowment structure and industrycharacteristics influence technological progress path selection; industrial agglomeration and technological progress path influence each other.Secondly, the empirical research is carried out. Specific as follows: based on panel granger causality test and simultaneous equations model, industrial agglomeration index to measure industrial agglomeration strength, and selected the four main technology progress path, study the relationship between industrial agglomeration strength and technology progress path. Results showed that industrial agglomeration strength and technology progress path on equipment manufacturing in China influence each other, effect of industrial agglomeration strength on different technology progress path was significantly different; effect of different technology progress path on industrial agglomeration existed difference. Further thirty-one provinces and autonomous regions are divided into the eastern region, central region and western region. The results showed that the eastern region, western region and central region should choice separately technology progress path of independent research and development, domestic technology introduction and imitation, foreign technology introduction and imitation or foreign direct investment and imitation to influence industrial agglomeration strength; industrial agglomeration strength has significantly positive impact on the technology progress path in the eastern region and western region, and industrial agglomeration strength has different effects on the different technology progress path in the central region. At the same time, seven industries of equipment manufacturing industry were analyzed. The results showed that foreign technology introduction and imitation and domestic technology introduction and imitation have no significant effect on high industrial agglomeration strength; the industrial agglomeration strength of subdivided industry has different impact on the different technology progress path; industry characteristics and regional factor endowment structure can influence selection and variation of the technology progress path, and having regional differences. In addition, the above conclusions were confirmed by the robustness test with Gini coefficient as the industrial agglomeration strength. |
