Current Situation Of Laos’ Export Development, Problems And Solution

Since the reformation and started the new economic system of Lao PDR, its economic are developing more quickly, foreign trade is continuously expanding, especially since Laos joined in the ASEAN in 1997, the volume of exports grow up rapidly, but behind the rapid growth of trade volume, many problems still exist. Inside the development of trade of Laos, how amount of the export trade of Laos had changed, in what areas that faced the barriers or problems, what measures should be taken to solve the problems. The thesis is based on related trade theories, through standardized analysis of Laos export situation, statistics of amount and export volume related to economic development, and then uses the trade policy to analyze Laos’ export problems and proper countermeasures, and also predict the trend of export development according to the results of the analysis. The research structure of this paper is as follows: Chapter 1 introduction. This chapter introduce the background and significance of the study and a list of related literature review, and explains the research concept, methods, and innovation and insufficiency; Chapter 2, through the three stages of describing the Laos export development course and situation: the reform of Laos’ economic development in export, export after the accession to the ASEAN, Laos export development in current situation. Research shows that the fastest development period of export is after Laos joined the ASEAN, especially since the 2008-2009 Laos trade balance was surplus, the main export commodities is energy, mines, industrial products, agricultural products, clothing etc. The main trading partners are Thailand, China, Vietnam, Europe and the United States. Chapter 3, studies the problems that existing in the export of Laos. The study found that there are many problems existing in Laos export, among them, its geography and transportation are two biggest barriers, then is the technical ability level is not high, a lot of products still rely on foreign imports, in particular, the machines; chapter 4, expounds the promoter to export of Laos, to improve and promote the basic trade structure, enhance the competitiveness of export commodities and improve the efficiency of export policy. Over the past decade, Laos has joined many trade organizations, participated with international import- export cooperation, researched and established the international standard for its’ export. This shows that Laos’ export development gap is still large.
