With the economic globalization in the today, economic growth is inseparable from the research on international trade, international trade is the main content and important manifestations among opening. What is the relationship between foreign trade and economic growth? Does the foreign trade can promote a country's economic growth? These issues has been become one of the important issues that many scholars study the theory and practice , and it has long been one of the focus of debate between learning and development economics and international trade. Since the reform and opening up in 1978, Chinese national economy has maintained a high rate of development, Chinese GDP increased by 30 times, it has made remarkable achievements. At the same time, foreign trade also maintained rapid development, foreign trade volume increasing year after year, in particular, in 2001 China has formally joined the World Trade Organization, foreign trade volume growth accelerated, and further deepening the integration with the world. With the rapid growth of foreign trade and increasing our level of opening up, foreign trade of the increasing influence of Chinese national economy, foreign trade has become an important factor of support our economic growth. Chinese economy is gradually being integrated into the world trade system, foreign trade has become one of the fastest economic growth area. Based on the above theoretical background and practice of development, the relation of Chinese foreign trade and economic development is not only become an important part of academic study by researchers, but also is the object of this study.This article first describes the background and the object of study in this paper and some basic information, and then summarizes the results of the research of scholars at home and abroad, and reviews of relevant theory. After that, the paper does research on Chinese foreign trade and economic growth for qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis, both laborate from the two perspectives of imports and exports, the paper research quantitative analysis based on the theoretical analysis, the exports and imports are have greater role in Chinese economic growth. Finally, the conclusion is given in this basis, and a number of policy recommendations. In this paper, the relevant relations between foreign trade and economic growth use total exports (EX), total imports (IM), import and export volume (TOTAL) three indicators to reflect the situation of foreign trade, and through macro-economic aggregates of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to measure economic growth, the sample data selected from 1978 to 2009 annual data, the paper shows that foreign trade effect on economic growth by calculating the indicators of Foreign-Trade Dependence, contribution rate and pull degree of imports and exports to economic growth to make the quantitative analysis .
