With the development of industrial automation and the broader application of Ethernet, there has been substantial growth of the demand for Ethernet Switches in China. As the market getting increasingly competitive, it becomes crucial for the enterprises to develop the latest technology, with limited resources and under a very constrained time frame. Project Management is one of the essential modern management tools and also among the strategic cores within the modern management philosophies. It supports the large and complex projects with efficient and controllable management frameworks; ensures smooth as well as timely development processes; enables the enterprises to maximize resources, reduce costs and increase competitiveness in the market. The thesis studied LP2000 Industrial Switch R&D project from DP, through the relevant frameworks obtained from the thorough study of Project Management. It demonstrated the applications of theories regarding project planning, controlling, within the development of industrial switches. First, it introduced the overview of the development processes for industrial switches, which integrates the organizational structure of enterprises with clear roles and responsibilities as well as establishing a structure for communications, enabling the effective monitoring and controlling throughout the development process. Further, the thesis illustrated the specific drafting processes for the project plan and the project key gates. With scientific Project Management methodologies adopted along the drafting processes, internet progress plan, key circuits and key controls have been identified in advance, which have been adjusted and optimized as the project evolves in favor of project management and control. The thesis also discussed the problems that have occurred within the studied project and suggested potential solutions. Last but not least, the thesis summarized the operations of LP2000 and conducted a thorough analysis of Project Management applications in R&D projects, which laid a solid foundation of a better understanding and further application for the author, in the future.
