Along with the advancement of economic globalization, the types of products become various and product’s life cycle becomes more and more short. Changeable market environment brings great challenge to manufacturing enterprise: on the one hand, consumer is more and more captious and requirement for the quality of product is more and more severe. On the other hand, the traditional way of product-oriented manufacturing method is backward. And a new customer requirement oriented manufacturing way, customized production, emerges. This puts forward new requirements for manufacturing industry, namely, improving product quality, speeding up response to customer demand, reducing inventory, shortening production lead time, lowering the manufacturing cost, etc.. The requirement for manufacturing system is to possess both flexibility and efficiency. Virtual cellular manufacturing system(VCMS) as a highly flexible production organization mode has attracted more and more attention.Virtual cell formation is the most important part of carrying out virtual cellular manufacturing system. Cell formation is the first step in implementing cell production mode. It is to identify parts and equipment which can be grouped in one cell. Cell formation problem is the key factor in timely responding to customer requirements, and is one of the hot issues in academic research and corporate research. But a lot of researches on virtual cell formation problems assume that the product demand and combination are certain, which greatly simplifies the virtual cell formation problem. At the same time, it does not reflect the advantage of virtual cell. This paper researches the problem of virtual cell dynamically formation.Resource sharing is one of the most important features in virtual cellular manufacturing. Generally, the research on virtual cell formation is based on the equipment, that is to say, treating a single device as a unit for forming virtual cells. But as for multi-function equipment, this method is a waste of resource. Resource sharing in virtual cell refers no longer to just equipment sharing, but also to machine function sharing. This paper uses resource element method to form the virtual cell. Organize different functions of different equipment and design mathematical model based on it. Resource element method makes the matching between task processing requirements and equipment processing capacity more accurate, which can not only reduce the idle equipment, improve equipment utilization, but also provide referent value for the enterprise in designing production plan and improving the efficiency of system. In the end, apply the proposed virtual cell formation method into one shipyard’s surface piecewise manufacturing process,This paper proposes an approach to form the virtual cell dynamically, based on the resource element method. First of all, take the production plan into consideration, which can mix the product demand and combination uncertainty into the process of cell formation. Secondly, put forward the event-driven virtual cell reconstruction method taking urgent order into consideration, summarize the feasibility and necessity of the implementation of virtual cell into this process. the proposed method in this paper can offer practical application value and theoretical basis for the enterprise.
