Income distribution has always been a hot issue in the mutual interest of western economists, the research literature in this area a lot, but mostly on the description of current status and policy of the income distribution. Few involved in top-level system design and deep theoretical research, especially from the Western theory of allocation study comparative perspective theory of distribution is still blank.Based on the review and contrast of study of Chinese and western distribution theory, we can see that, element distribution theory is the theoretical foundation of western distribution theory, but the basis of the study of Chinese distribution theory on socialism with Chinese characteristics is a combination of distribution according to work theory and element contribution theory. Contribution allocation of factors of production is the main common character of Chinese and western distribution theory, and the sign of Chinese distribution theory on socialism with Chinese characteristics moves to maturity. Diversify on methods of production derived from contribution allocation of production factors will be the common develop trend of the type of Chinese and western income distribution. However, the value basis of the type of Chinese and western income distribution is totally different, China is based on Marx’s labor theory, and innovating ways to improve variety of distribution, while elements of value theory run through the western distribution theory. Therefore, Chinese distribution theory pay more attention to the dominant position of labor.Talking about the theory of distribution, in addition to solving the condition of participating in the distribution, but also need to solve the problem of how to allocate. Therefore, the question of how to deal with the allocation process efficiency and fairness has become a common topic of Chinese and western distribution theory. From the time classical economists valued too much on efficiency, efficiency theory has occupied the dominant position of western distribution theory until the Keynesian revolution, emphasizing the importance of equity, and fairness theory has become a hot research of Keynesian school. However, western distribution theory has not achieved reunification of efficiency and fairness on this question. China’s income distribution theory emphasized too much on fair in the initial of distribution of national wealth until the appearance of the concept "common prosperity", the situation of neglect of efficiency was completely reversed, "giving priority to efficiency with due consideration to fairness", "initial distribution and redistribution both need to respect equity. " This series of changes in the distribution theory show s that we are adapting to solve the question of relationship between efficiency and fairness gradually, and it shows that achieving the unification of efficiency and equity is the main driving force of Chinese and western distribution theory. The convergence and differences between Chinese and western distribution theory give us some reference and inspiration. To achieve the unification of efficiency and fairness, efficient markets and high-quality government functions must be clear. At the same time, we need to improve the social welfare system, and make the majority of working people share the fruits of reform and development. Actively build production factors equal, effective participation in the distribution of market mechanisms to promote the rationalization and efficiency of factor income, improve workers’ compensation. Foster the dominant middle class social class structure, and to achieve common prosperity.
