City Economic Competitiveness Evaluation Of Xiamen

Under the background of economic globalization, regional integration and knowledge economization, the competition among cities became much fiercer. So the main problem is that if a city can attract the limited resource in the world or not with its competitiveness as an economic dimension. Actually, the competition among cities is the economic competition among cities. As a result, studying the city economic competitiveness, can show the city’s competitiveness and economic condition.At first, this article sets up the evaluation index system of city economic competitiveness, and divides city economic competitiveness into two parts:city economic condition and city economic potential.Secondly, this article studies the city economic competitiveness of Xiamen from 2002 to 2012 with statistical date. Different from the previous studies, this article Analysis the three years which increases more or decrease more in city economic condition, city economic potential and city economic competitiveness. After discuss the influence reasons which can be used for experience on promoting the Xiamen city economic competitiveness. We find that the reason for the great rising is about regional integration, industry development, the relationship between Taiwan and China and so on. The reason for the little rising is about external trade, infection, census register system and so on.Thirdly, this article compares Xiamen to another four cities specifically designated in the state plan:Qingdao, Dalian, Ningbo and Shenzhen in city economic competitiveness, and analyses their advantages and disadvantages in city economic condition, city economic potential and city economic competitiveness. The result is that Xiamen is the last one in economic competitiveness. The reason is about the smaller economic scale, the smaller investment in science and education, the smaller land, the average of public resource and so on.At last, this article gives some suggestions, such as upgrading industry, carrying forward urban integration, boosting trade and perfecting the society, which is for promoting Xiamen city economic competitiveness development.
