According to the theory of development economics, the free movement of labor would bring the income gap between urban and rural areas.Conversion of urban and rural employment structure made China’s economic development rapidly in the last 30 years and also brought unprecedented series of economic and social problems. Meanwhile, with the rural labor mobility increasing, although improving the income of rural resident, the income gap between urban and rural areas has occurred counter intuitive logic and the classical theory of change. It is not narrowed but expanded. Although the discussion on the issue of labor already begun research, the atypical relationship in the urban and rural labor transfer process is still helpless.Firstly, the related concepts of urban and rural employment structure and income distribution are defined and analyze some theories of urban and rural employment structure conversion and income distribution, and discuss the impact of the urban and rural employment structure conversion and income distribution. Secondly, analyze current situation and problems in urban and rural employment structure and income distribution, discuss constraints of urban and rural employment structure conversion. Then, using the 1978 to 2013 time-series data and the least squares method by SPSS statistical software to analyze the effects between urban and rural employment structure conversion and income distribution. Finally, some constructive suggestions are put forward based on the results of empirical research.Empirical evidence shows that the conversion of urban and rural employment structure has the effect of narrowing the income gap between urban and rural areas generally, but urban and rural human resources, the capital-labor ratio in the process of industrialization, market system in the urban and rural and other factors, and the widening income gap between urban and rural areas also has not been effectively controlled.
