Inventory Control Of Spare Parts In IT Manufacturers

With the rapid development of economic globalization, the enterprises are faced with increasingly fierce market competition. Inventory control occupies an extremely important position in business activities. Both overstock and shortage of the stock will affect the development of the enterprises. In order to ensure that enterprises can quickly response to customer demand, and keep a reasonable inventory level, the enterprises must develop appropriate inventory control methods to solve the inventory problem effectively. With the development of information technology, IT products’ ownership tends to be stable; IT manufacturers try to turn after-sales service to core competitiveness. IT manufacturers need to meet the demand of customers, provide warranty service and some other value-added services, which put forward higher request to spare parts inventory control IT manufacturers. It is a key problem how to ensure that customer requirements under the premise of reducing spare parts inventory cost.This dissertation analyzes the status and the basis of relating theories of spare parts in IT manufacturers. Firstly, the dissertation analyzes the current situation of the spare parts inventory and the existing problems of IT manufacturers. Next, the elements of the spare parts inventory are proposed. Aimed at two main problems:unreasonable spare parts classification and the lack of scientific inventory control method, this dissertation proposes a classification method of spare parts inventory based on Kraljic matrix and the ABC classification, which divided spare parts into strategic spare parts, leveraged spare parts,bottlenecks spare parts, and common spare parts. On the basis of the classification, each kind of spare parts inventory control mainly has carried on the concrete analysis. Then, this dissertation respectively establishes IT manufacturers spare parts inventory control model according to the characteristics of each kind, which balance the service level and inventory cost. Finally, The L company is selected as an example to verify the validity and reliability of the model. The analysis is combined with the characteristics and status of L company spare parts inventory control. On the comparison between the actual inventory cost and the spare parts inventory control model proposed in this dissertation, the models are effective and available, which can also provide a new way to control the inventory of other IT manufacturers.In this dissertation, a classification method combined with Kraljic matrix and the ABC classification method is used with the characteristics of spare parts in IT manufacturers. spare parts in IT manufacturers can be classified as Strategic spare parts, lever spare parts, bottleneck spare parts and general spare parts, and for each type of spare parts inventory control points are analyzed.The dissertation constructs different types of spare parts inventory models with Markov model in IT manufacturers. According to the characteristics of each kind of spare parts, the dissertation constructs spare parts inventory control models in IT manufacturers with different inventory control strategies which consider the service level and inventory cost equilibrium.
