In the semiconductor rapid development in the past50years, has been followedwith Moore’s Law:"the number of transistors on an IC, about every18months will bedoubled, performance will increase1times, and cost remain basically unchanged.""Moore’s law" defines the speed of technological progress. In the field ofsemiconductor equipment Applied Materials has been ranked first for seventeenthyears. Except lithography products, Applied Material have all application materialsgood market share, especially has very highest market share in the furnace, physicalvapor deposition, chemical vapor deposition.But in recent years, the leading position of A company is dangerous. Thecompetitor is accelerating, but A was slowing, and the gap to second is close. And A’sinvestigate many small companies of semiconductor and solar in the past8years.Most of the acquisitions are not achieved the desired results, and finally closed whichcaused the company lost a valuable cash flow. The company’s stock price droppedfrom20dollars (2007) to10dollars (2012). This has seriously affected the confidenceof investors and employees, also reduced to attract talents.In this paper, through a series of research, the current market environment,competitors’ characteristics and customer characteristics are in-depth analysis. ThenSWOT analysis finds Applied Material’s strengths, weakness, opportunity and threats.Based on the analysis, the company objectives are defined. And mergers strategy,financial strategy, technology strategy, marketing strategy and human resourcestrategy are defined.
