Schedule management is one of the three elements of project management. The reasonable arrangement of project schedule has a direct impact on ensuring the construction period, quality and cost. It is the key link of the full scale operation of the project management. And it is particular true when it comes to those complicated projects which have a tight schedule. At the end of2009, SG Company proposed that they should constantly improve their capacity in scrap purchasing and supply and give great impetus to the construction of scrap purchasing system and basically complete the system by the end of September of2010. However, the construction project of the scrap purchasing system is a comprehensive and complex one and the time is very tight. Only through making full use of project management theories and tools, project schedule management in particular, can we complete the construction of purchasing system under the restraint of resource while also giving consideration to time, cost and quality.Through the analysis of the status quo and the problems of scrap purchasing system of SG Company, this paper systematically applied the relevant theories and methods in the project construction of scrap purchasing system of SG Company. Focusing on the characteristics of its tight schedule and its complexity, this paper places emphasis on the schedule management of the project. Through defining the range of the project, analyzing and choosing appropriate technology, they should ensure that the plan is scientific and accurate during the stage of making the project schedule. While in the stage of carrying out and controlling the project schedule, they should ensure the completion of the project through decomposing controlling object, setting up controlling points and various measure in terms of regulations, organization, technology and economy.The main research content of this paper is as follows:(1) The analysis of the status quo and the problems of scrap purchasing system of SG Company.(2) In order to complete the construction of scrap purchasing system with high quality and construct the purchasing mode for its own development we must make full use of project management theories and tools.(3) The paper emphases research schedule management of the construction project of the scrape purchasing system of SG Company.Through the research and practice of schedule management of the construction project of the scrape purchasing system of SG Company, the conclusion is nichetargeting and instructive. I hope this paper will be of some help for the application of project management theory in purchasing among the iron and steel companies.
