An important principle of urban land use is intensive use, residential land intensive use closely related to people’s livelihood. Urbanization led to increases of urban population and the demand for housing. The planning of urban residential areas is internationalization, the design of housing and the plan of residential functions are gradually improved. However, the variety of commercial housing products can’t solve the housing problem of the low-income people. The investment proportion of Shanghai government in building affordable housing bases increased every year to make sure everyone has a place to live. Thrust of this paper is to study the land intensive utilization level of urban affordable housing residential.Land intensive use is a complicated systematic, the establishment of a scientific and rational evaluation model requires adequate theoretical basis and research data. Firstly, this paper presents the researches in urban land intensive use of domestic and foreign scholars and set the framework of this article. Secondly, the theoretical support was cleared by expounding the achievements in urban land intensive use and housing security. Thirdly, this paper expounds the construction of affordable housing in Shanghai to clear the situation of land using in the research scope. Based on the study basic theory and outstanding research achievements a evaluation system of land intensive use in urban affordable housing residential was build. The evaluation system including19index which divided into four criterions.This paper choose Shanghai Sanlin Town as the empirical case. Through basic information gathering by field researching and combining AHP and entropy method,the evaluation system of land intensive use of urban affordable housing residential in Sanlin town was made from four criterions:structure, land investment level, land use intensity and land productivity benefits.
