Objective:The purpose of this research is to improve the shortage of the patent portfolioanalysis methods in the level of the traditional technique,and to make it morescientific and effective.There are defects in the patent portfolio analysis methods inthe level of the traditional technique,which include the division methods of thetechnical field to be somewhat qualitative,the measure standards of the technicalattractivenesse to be not uniform, lacking the technology life cycle dimension in thepatent portfolio analysis models of the technical level and so on.It will lead toinaccurate results and ultimately affect the decision-making by using the patentportfolio analysis methods in the level of the traditional technique. Therefore,weoptimize the shortcomings of the patent portfolio analysis methods in the level of thetraditional technique, improve the division methods in the technical field, unify themeasure standards of the technical attractiveness,and bring the technology life cycledimension into the patent portfolio analysis methods in the level of the traditionaltechnique.These methods will make the patent portfolio analysis method of thetraditional technical level more scientific and effective,so they will benefit Ourdecision makers of Chinese enterprises to assess the current technical strength morerational,monitor the relative patent position of competitors,and formulatedevelopment strategies.Eventually these methods enable Chinese enterprises tomaintain a strong competitive power in the current situation of global competition.Subject and Methods:This research optimizates the patent portfolio analysis methods of the technicallevel and corrects the basic problems of the level by using the text mining methods,natural language processing technology, visualization technology, andnormalization methods. At first,the research uses the processes that include extractingtags of the technical fields、clustering Patent texts and so on.With these processes theresearch divides the technical fields that enterprises involve on the basis of analysing the limitations of traditionaltechnical division methods.What is more,thetext constructs a three-dimensional model of the patent portfolio analysis on the basisof analyzing the patent portfolio model on the level of traditional technology fields.Inthis model,the research combines the technology life cycle theory and patent portfoliotheory,and construct technical life cycle dimension.At the same time,the researchuses normalization methods, interviewing experts methods,and establishes thenew indicator "the average technology attraction" on the basis of conventionaltechniques attractive measure standards,and includes it in three dimensional patentportfolio analysis model.At last,the research sets a domestic biopharmaceuticalcompany as an example,and constructs applied researches for three-dimensionalPatent portfolio analysis models.Results:(1) We carried out the hierarchical clustering analysis for the tag matrix by usingSPSS Statistical software,and obtained the hierarchical clustering pedigree of thepatent text of the biopharmaceutical enterprise. It can be obtained from the technicaldomain information of every kind of patent groups. This research uses the hierarchicalclustering pedigree of patent text to divide the patent of the biopharmaceuticalenterprise into15technical domains.(2) The paper carried out the patent portfolio analysis of the technical level forthe15technical aspects of the enterprise involved,by using the three dimensionalpatent portfolio analysis model constructed by this research.We take the relativetechnology share as X axis, the average technical attraction as the Y axis, thetechnology life cycle as the Z axis,and make the ball volume as Research anddevelopment focus of the enterprise. We use the data analysis and visualizationsoftware Matlab to draw three-dimensional patent combination chart of everytechnology domain of the bio pharmaceutical enterprise.Also the paper determine theinvestment and development strategy of every technology area of the biopharmaceutical enterprise by using the patent combination chart.Conclusion:(1) The use of the text mining methods to divide the thchnical fields solves thedefects that deviations can be easily lead to because of using the International PatentClassification and expert interviews as the division methods in the technical field onthe basis of analyzing limitations of the patent portfolio on the level of traditional technology fields.(2) The three-dimensional patent portfolio analysis model that researchconstructs solves the shortcomings that the original model can not analyze what kindof technology is the life cycle stages,and solves the differeces between the patentportfolio figures resulted from regarding each index as techniques attarctive measurestandards respectively in the original model.
