As an im portant proposition in the proce ss of m odernization and the sustain able economic growth, urbanization is the m ain engine and potential power of sustainable economic development in China. Since re form and ope ning up for 30 years, China’ s urbanization rate increased dram atically, which was i mproved from 17.9% in 1978 to 54.77% in 2014. In recent years, the urbanization have draw n increasing attention of our party and government. It states that “We should keep to the Chinese-style path of new-type urbanization and prom ote human-centered urbanization” in the repor t to the Eighteenth National Congress of the CPC. It gives the di rection of urbanization developm ent in the next five years. It is als o clear that th e key of new-type urbanization is im proving the quality of urbanization. W e should em phasize the unity of social ef ficiency, economic efficiency, ecological ef ficiency, living ef ficiency and the ef ficiency of population sustainable development. However, with th e rapid developm ent of ur banization in our country, some problems and contradictions are becom ing increasingly prom inent in the process of urbanization, such as high en ergy consumption, low output, high input, low efficiency and so on. At present, C hina’s economics development is just at the critical phase of transition and upgrading. As one of th e four major strategies of transformation and spanning development of China’s economy, new-type urbanization play an important role on optimizing economic structure, expanding domestic demand and so on. It is the powerful driving force of econom ic restructuring and developm ent. Therefore, studying how to es tablish reasonable evaluation system of ef ficiency and quality of new-type urbanization, measure the urbanization efficiency and quality accurately and improve the level of urbanization in China is of great significance. At present, however, there are few literatur e involved in the ef ficiency of new-type urbanization. This result in a lack of depth and com prehensiveness on studying the problem. Based on the relevant theoretical re search of the ef ficiency of new-type urbanization in our country, this thesis anal yses the ef ficiency of China’ s new-type urbanization, with integ rating input-output into ef ficiency evaluation system, employing SBM super ef ficiency model and collecting i nput-output data of China’ s 30 provinces, cities and towns from 2004 to 2013. Then, base d empirical results, this thesis makes a horizontal and vertical com parison and analysis for the ef ficiency of urbanization. And a comparison and analysis between the eastern, central and western regi ons is also carried out. At last, this thesis explores and analyzes its influencing factors. The results show that the overall efficiency of urbanization in Ch ina is not high, and there is a serious regional im balance. Among them, the new urbanization ef ficiency is the highest in the eastern region(s uch as Shanghai, Hainan). It is far higher than the national average. However, the internal differences is the biggest between eastern regions. S uch as the relative efficiency of Liaoning province and Shandong Province are relatively low. In the western region, although in some areas(such as Qinghai), their rankings are in the front of the rest of the provinces in 2004 to 2013, but compared with them, other regions still has a larger gap. A good linkage mechanism is not formed between the central region and the eastern region, and the efficiency is also not high. Although the overall efficiency is greatly improved in 10 years, but it also shows a sl ow decline in the trend. Finally, based on the above analysis, this thesis puts forward some the policy recomm endations to balance regional development and improve the efficiency of China’s new urbanization.
