Evaluation On The Potential Of Improved Forest Management Project In Forest Carbon Market In China

In the background of global climate change, Improved Forest Management project is a main project type in the global forest carbon market, which is with great significance. At present, most studies of Improved Forest Management project focused on management mode and carbon storage estimation in China, and little attention was paid to project level. To some extent, this study filled the blank of Improved Forest Management project, and provided a scientific basis for Improved Forest Management project. Through consulting relevant reference and database, the developing potential of Improved Forest Management project in China was estimated by combing methods of literature research, qualitative and quantitative analysis, dynamic and static analysis. Besides, it was according to the national eighth forest resources inventory data and the relevant data published by the state statistics administration and the state forestry administration, as well as the relevant provisions in "Methodology of Improved Forest Management project". The main conclusions were as follows:i) At present, the vacancy of Improved Forest Management project methodology was relatively larger, only 1 methodology was approved by NDRC, and further development and improvement were needed, ii) Ability construction covered many departments (26573) and population (498296), which had a larger improving space, iii) A total of 13.3165 million hectares areas could be developed as a project related to the methodology among our country’s forest areas. iv) Heilongjiang、Neimenggu、Hunan、Jiangxi and Guizhou province could be the priority areas of developing Improved Forest Management project in China. At last, based on study results above, some suggestions were provide for Improved Forest Management project development combing with the actual situation in China.
