Empirical Study Among Data Governance, Big Data Capability And Group Control

In the past few decades, Chinese enterprise groups played an important role in the promotion of technological innovation, leading Chinese enterprises to participate in the national competition. However, with the rapid expansion of the scale, enterprise groups are facing severe control problems, which include the unclear role, the unknown core value, poor communication system, weakening control headquarters, the asymmetric information between parent and subsidiary companies. Group control has become a major obstacle to enterprise group to expand overseas markets, to enhance the international competitiveness, in this context, how to solve the Chinese enterprise group control problem is particularly urgent and important. Domestic theory and practice have shown that big data will have a profound impact on the group control, which provides a new way to solve the problem of group control. However, big data is a relatively new field, the current discuss about big mostly concentrated in the technology sector, and few scholars study big data from strategic management perspective, the mechanism that the big data affect the group control is rare. What is big data in strategy perspective? What factors will affect the big data? Exactly how it will affect group control? These issues have not been answered. Based on the above practical and theoretical background, this paper try to explore the relationship among data governance, big data capability and group control.First, the theoretical basis of this study involved were introduced, Specifically group control studies were reviewed; then, this paper study the on the dimension of data governance and big data capability, proposing that the data governance consists of the awareness of governance, structure arrangements of governance and communication mechanism of governance, that big data capability consists of integrating resources capability, in-depth analysis capability and real-time insight and predictive capability. Then based on organizational interpretation theory, this paper built the theoretical relationship among data governance, big data capability and group control and proposed 18 theoretical assumptions. Finally, by using the sample data from 118 Enterprise Groups in Guangdong Province, the paper is checked the research hypothesis by SPSS16.0 and LISREL8.7, and the test results showed that 11 hypotheses are supported,7 are not supported.The main conclusions of the article are as follows:first, the data governance consists of awareness of governance and coordinating mechanisms of governance. Second, the big data capability consists of integrating resources capability, in-depth analysis capability and real-time insight and predictive capability. Third, data governance has a significant positive impact on the big data capability. In particular, the awareness of governance has both a significant positive impact on integrating resources capability and real-time insight and predictive capability; the coordinating mechanisms of governance have a significant positive impact on integrating resources capability, in-depth analysis capability and real-time insight and predictive capability. Fourth, the big data capability has a positive impact on the group control, but currently exists only in the integrating resources capability, namely the integrating resources capability has a positive impact on strategic control, financial control and cultural control. The in-depth analysis capability has no significant impact on strategic control and cultural control, but has a negative impact on financial control; the real-time insight and predictive capability has no significant impact on strategic control, financial control and cultural control.The innovations and contributions of the results are the following two aspects:(1) Enrich and expand the study of big data from the perspective of strategic management theory. Firstly, further clarify the concept of data governance, and proposed the dimensions by theoretical studies, which further deepening the relevant theoretical and empirical research about data governance. Secondly, the paper put forward the concept of big data capacity based on resource based view and dynamic capabilities theory, and proposed the dimensions of big data capability through theoretical and empirical research, which provides a theoretical reference for strategic management scholars in further studying the relationship among big data and related corporate resulting variables (such as technology innovation, competitive advantage). Again, this paper study the affecting mechanism between data governance and big data capability,which expand and enrich the antecedents study of big data.(2)Enrich and expand the relevant theoretical research about group control, which provides a new path to group control study. This paper studies the relationship between big data capability and control group which provides a new theoretical perspective for group control. From a practical point of view, the result also provides a new direction of thinking for enterprise group to solve group control problems.
