With the development of economic, the material cost is not the secret in manufacturing field. Reducing production cost and increasing productivity are the fundamental way for the manufacturing companies to stand out from the competition. Especially the continuing rising of raw material and labor cost in recent years, manufacturing companies are looking for methods to achieve low manufacturing cost and high production efficiency.This article analyzes the main factors that affect the production cost of B company by using the management ideas and methods of lean production, discusses the method to reduce B company’s production costs by implementing SMED and improving the overall equipment efficiency of the key equipment.First, the status of B company are introduced. By the description and analysis of B company’s main products, processes, plant layout, production line capacity, the bottleneck process is found in the production process. Then the article further identify the key equipment SMED, OEE implementing and improving subprojects.Second, SMED subproject for the key equipment of B company is implemented. By the description and analysis of the present situation of die change in the packaging workshop, deficiencies are found. SMED theory is used to analyze and improve the die change process, and achieve good results.At last, the practical application of OEE on packaging workshop of B company is introduced. Combined with the actual situation of the equipments in B company, the paper reclassify the losses. By making tables, collecting and analyzing data to make comprehensive multi-level classification of the reasons that influence OEE and calculate the OEE of the existing equipment.Aiming at the low-level OEE, improvement methods and measures are proposed based on the detailed analysis of the main factors that influenced OEE, and achieve good effect in practical application.
