| Since the time that the State Council put forward the goal of building Dalian shipping center has passed 11 years, Dalian has made some achievements. But it still lags behind other international shipping center in the soft environment. Currently hardware environment is not the only criterion of its position in the international shipping center. It must also have a strong soft power. London and New York are good demonstrations. Dalian could learn from the advanced experience of model international shipping centers, including London, New York, Rotterdam, Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo.The innovative use of quantitative methods will be used to make international shipping center development pattern judgement, from which we could select suitable development pattern for Dalian shipping center construction. In this paper cluster analysis method is selected, using a series of indicator data to explain the status of an international shipping center so the shipping centers which have consistent development pattern can be classified as a class. There are three patterns-goods transition, shipping service and hinterland distribution.After the sipping center development patterns have been acquired, discriminant analysis will be used to get Dalian shipping center’s development pattern. The most suitable pattern proves to be hinterland distribution pattern. Effective solution of this problem may find a path of better Dalian shipping center development which is not only in line with the development trend of international shipping center and also be suitable for its own economic development characteristics. |
