| With deepening globalization and regional integration as well as increasingly fierce competition between countries, cities have become the engines of global economy, and airports have turned into the most important infrastructure and strategic tool of cities’competition. A number of factors, including the coming of post financial crisis era, emerging reindustrialization in developed countries, the transformation of economic growth patterns and global city competition are strongly impulsing economic transformation of its own cities. Therefore, airports have triggered fast growth of high and new technology industry, advanced manufacturing industry and recycling economy. As a result, airport economy has become one kinds of rapid rising economy that attracted more attention in various countries.China has also attached great importance to the development of airport economy. According to the Regional Planning of Yangtze River Delta Economic Zone, Shanghai Pudong Airport should be built as an international aviation hub. The 12th Five-Year Plan of Development Guideline of Shanghai Civil Aviation highly emphasizes that aviation service, other airport industries and large aircraft projects are needed to be promoted. After the finish of the 12th five-year plan, Pudong International Airport shall have become the world-class hub of aviation freight in the world.With further deepening process of institutional reform and wider opening-up in China, China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone(CPFTZ) locating in Pudong wasapproved in 29 September 2013. As one of the biggest international airports of China, Shanghai Pudong International Airport, has the third largest cargo handling capacity in the world, and greater potential to be an significant international cargo hub. The development of airport economy of Pudong International Airport attaches great strategic importance to the competitiveness improvement of Pudong new district and the whole Shanghai.Through systematic analysis of foreign typical airport economic cases and considering the background of free trade zone construction of Pudong airport economy, this paper mainly aims to explore the development model of Pudong airport economy in order to provide theoretical supportive and strategic advice. It includes seven chapters as the following:the first one is aboutThis paper consists of seven chapters, main contents of each chapter is as follows:The first chapter is to introduce background and significance of the research of Pudong airport economic development, clarify the ideas and methods, points out the content and research framework, summarizes the research characteristic and innovation. The second chapter is aboutthe research progress the of airport economy and theoretical basis, firstly it summarizes the definition and its connotation, then makes a literature review from the aspects of theoretical analysis and empirical study, and gives a brief conclusion. Finally, it introduces the basic theory of airport economy, including the classical location theory, growth pole theory, core-periphery theory, industrial location and industrial cluster theory, the new economic Geography theory, regional division theory(The absolute advantage theory, comparative advantage theory, factor endowment theory). The third chapter is the cases study and the experience reference from the successful practice ofinternational airport economic, including Holland Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, London Heathrow Airport, Singapore Changi Airport, American Chicago O’Hare Airport. It summers up some valuable experience from the three aspects of type,space layout of industry and their governance. The fourth chapter analyzesthe contextof the development of airport economy in Shanghai, the coming of post financial crisis era, emerging reindustrialization in developed countries, the transformation of economic growth patterns and the competition of global cities, Shanghai airport economy is facing the great opportunities and challenges after the establishment of CPFTZ. The fifth chapter is the analysis of the current situation of the development of airport economy in Pudong, which includesdevelopment characteristics, main types of developmentmode and industrialdevelopment andrelated problems. The sixth chapter mainly discusses the strategy and path of Pudong airport economic development in new periodand points out the general roadmap and majormeasures in order to promote itsdevelopment. The seventh chapter is mainly generalizes the study limitation and prospects of future research. |
