An Investigation On The International Competitiveness Of Vietnam Rice Exporting

Vietnam is a traditional agricultural country and rice is its most important export crop whichhas created a huge foreign exchange earnings for Vietnam. In the international rice market, Vietnam maintains the world’s second largest rice exporterfor many years. But with Vietnam’s accession into the WTO, it faces many challenges and obstacles in this respect. It is of significance to make an analysis on the international competitiveness of Vietnam rice in export, identify its strengths and enhance its international competitiveness, which matters in the development of Vietnamese agriculture.First, an investigation is conducted on the rice production situation in Vietnam rice production area, productivity and production areas. Secondly, this paper elaborates on the development and current status of Vietnamese rice trade in terms of Vietnam’s rice exports course, rice exports, the export value, export price, the export type and export markets. Finally, it made a quantitative analysis of Vietnamese competitiveness worldwide from the international market share, trade competitiveness index, revealed comparative advantage perspective, and adopts Port’s theory of competitive advantages to conclude factors influencing the international competitiveness of Vietnamese rice.Studies have shown that: Vietnamese rice exports in the international competitiveness has a relatively strong competitiveness, but does poor in the rice export quality and export price competitiveness. In view of this, it proposes a series of recommendations and measures to enhance the international competitiveness of Vietnamese rice industry for reference.
