The railway transport enterprises have been creating new transport products, developing various market strategy and adjusting the freight rate to promote self-competitiveness. Sheng Guangzu, the general manager of China Railway Corporation, pointed out that "freight transport is the main source of railway operating income". Further, the turnover of rail commodities freight transport accounted for more than 50% in the whole freight transport. Thus, it’s significant to study on how to apply the rail commodities freight rate to grasp the commodities freight market.This thesis is mainly about the price making of rail commodities freight transport. In the first chapter, the introduction and literature review were described in detail. And then, teased the freight rate management system and freight rate structure through the analysis of rail freight transport pricing mechanism. Summarized the issues of rail commodities fright rate in three aspects. Studied on rail commodities fright transport demand and made an empirical analysis based on the theory of econometrics. Established the VAR model by acquiring relevant data from 1978 to 2009. The results showed that the commodities freight rate was so unexpectedly low owing to the freight rate regulation for a long time that the normal inhibition had been reduced. Another hand, GDP had a dominant and sustained influence on the rail commodities freight transport demand. Compared three viewpoints of pricingtheory in microeconomics and considered the railway transport enterprises were facingthe monopolistic competition. In this way, the enterprises aiming at maximizing profit in the long run and maintaining the operation in the short run. On this basis, established the rail commodities freight pricing model suitable for China’s freight rate mechanism and obtained the reasonable price range. Finally, this thesis selected G railway bureau for case analysis to test the viability of the model proposed above. However, this pricing model still have some limitations which should be the problems to be solved further.
