To some extent, competition among enterprises is subject to their competition for human resource. Human resource has become the prime factor that determines enterprises’existence and development. Facing the more and more complicated environment, enterprises must attract, hold, and make full use of talents by designing adjusting the human resource system especially the performance management system. Modern enterprises cannot achieve prosperity unless they own perfect performance management system, which has become the key aspects of human resource management and raised the standard of human resource management.Retailing industry, especially supermarket, as its typical business mode, has gotten great development with Chinese continuous reform and openness. Supermarket was changing at rapid and exponential rates, gradually turned into an indispensable part of our daily life. How to improve staff’s morale and stay motivated at work? It is a question which supermarket management needs to face and solve. This thesis fully and in-depth analyzed performance management system of Hunan B supermarket, according to the open questions in its performance management and research about modern performance management theory as well as relevant literatures, and finally optimized PMS Hunan B supermarket.This thesis consists of six chapters, chapter one, primarily focused on performance management background、purpose、significance、research status and logical framework. Chapter two, mainly introduced theoretical basis of performance management and its principle、function etc. Chapter three, interviewed B supermarket staffs based on Hunan B supermarket status quo and its original performance management mode, to find out the existing problems and its reasons about B supermarket PMS. Chapter four described Improvement of B supermarket performance management according to the previous analysis. It emphasized performance plan, managing performance, performance assessment, and performance feedback. Chapter five, center on feedback and effect after carrying out improved performance management system. This thesis evaluated from two aspects:questionnaire survey and financial analysis, the result indicated that Hunan B supermarket employees’ satisfaction and motivation enhanced, as well as increased market financial revenue. Chapter six, it included research conclusions and prospective research direction.
