As a strategic plan of implementing the most stringent farmland protection system andthe most stringent system of economical intensive land use, and promoting integrateddevelopment of urban and rural, rural land remediation has become an important startingpoint and basic platform for securing development and arable land red line, and forimproving people’s life. Rural land remediation is a systematic project involving manystakeholders where the farmers are the direct beneficiaries and the most criticalstakeholders. Whether the farmers participating or not directly affects the success or failureof the rural land remediation. Therefore, it is very important to systematically understandthe behavior law of the farmers in rural land remediation, and develop appropriateincentive measures. The study data of this paper is based on questionnaire of special investigations named“The participation behaviors of the farmers in rural land remediation”, getting from4townships and8administrative villages of Jinxian County, Xingzi County, GanxianCounty of Jiangxi Province. This paper systematically analyzes the participation behaviors, and willingness and reasons for lack of participation, and also analyzes the degree ofrecognition of the different incentives. This paper selects farmers own factors, farmhousehold characteristics factors, farmers resource endowments as independent variables, then uses logistic regression models to analyze different impacts of those variables in ruralland remediation. The research shows that the current farmers’ behavioral characteristics mainly asfollows: Farmers generally recognized the importance of the participation of farmers. Andthe participation of the farmers is overall good, but not enough to the whole project. Thereare differences between participations of different aspects of the work. The reasons for lowlevel of participation include poor awareness and cognition of the farmers, neglects fromthe relevant government departments, lack of channels for expressing opinions, no legalprotection for participatory mechanisms, and lack of specialized non-governmentalorganizations. The significant factors influencing the level of participation of farmersmainly include age, education, the proportion of the labors who are perennial farming athome, the proportion of arable operating income, and the area of per arable land. And thereis negative correlation relationship between the level of participation and the factorscontained age, education, and the proportion of arable operating income, and there are bigdifferences in the factors affecting farmers’ participation in different stages. The incentivesordered according to the degree of recognition include open channels of communication, making the content of land remediation known to public, promotion publicity related to land remediation, strict rules and norms, publicity of expected results of land remediation, perfect participating organizations, training farmers knowledge related to land remediation, and convenient participations, appropriate incentives. Finally, the study concludes suggestions incentivizing farmer participating in ruralland remediation, including creating open channels of communication and building aplatform for farmers to participate in rural land card characters; Strengthening propagandaefforts to raise the awareness and ability of farmers to participate in the rural landremediation; Establishing and improving publicity system of planning information to makefarmers supervise land remediation process; Improve the legal norms and the publicparticipation system; Establish appropriate incentives to encourage farmers to participate inthe rural land remediation; Encouraging the development of characteristic agriculture inrural areas, and leading farmers to carry out large-scale operations.
