Research On Eel Farmers’ Willing To Join Professional Cooperatives

Driven by market demand and comparative advantage, more and more farmers engaged in eel farming, even forming an eel farming boom in a certain range within a certain area.And now, under the stimulation of market economy, the eel gradually developed into the most successful specie of the special breeding in Hubei Province. Eel farming has become the focus of aquaculture development in Jianghan Plain. Jianghan Plain in Hubei Province has been the largest area for the caged raising eel in the country, and world-famous " China’s eel plant " is located in Xiantao City of Jianghan Plain.However, currently most of the eel farming is self-employed. Under the more and more severe market competition, the contradiction between small eel farmers and big market has become increasingly serioust. Against this background, if there is a dedicated eel farming cooperatives uniting the eel farmers, making unified management and linking the eel farming supply system together, which will greatly promote the development of eel farming.However, according to the statistics, the ratio of our country peasant household to participate in professional cooperatives is less than5%. On the one hand, we have been emphasized the importance and necessity of development of professional cooperatives, thought that setting up professional cooperatives is of great benefits to our country agriculture economy and farmers; on the other hand, the farmers participation rate was so low.In view of this, the reasons for this question is is worth pursuing further. Therefore, understanding the influence factors of farmers participating in cooperative intention have important practical significance for grasping the basic orientation of the future development of China’s rural specialized cooperative organizations, revealing the factors restricting the development of the present stage our country farmers’professional co-operatives, and eventually formulating policies and measures to support the development of farmers’professional co-operatives.Therefore, this paper made a research in eel farming cooperatives, which included surveying the eel farmers’satisfaction of joining professional cooperatives and analyzing the influencing factors of eel farmers into professional cooperatives. Our purpose is to bring certain theoretical guiding significance for the further development of eel farming in Jianghan Plain and eel farming professional cooperatives through the research. This thesis is divided into five parts.The first part introduced the historical background of this research in domestic and foreign research present situation, the main research contents and research methods of this article, as well as the main innovation points and the existing shortcomings.The second part expounded the status quo of the eel farmers participating in cooperative in Jianghan Plain. We carried first on the brief introduction of Jianghan Plain, and then the interpretation of the data source of this article, then the detailed elaboration on the actual situation of the eel farmers participating in cooperative, and eventually summarized some problems of the eel farming professional cooperatives development according to the survey of the status quo of jianghan plain region.The third part mainly discussed the factors influencing the eel of the will of farmers to participate in professional cooperatives to carry on the theoretical assumptions. Firstly we briefly discussed two theoretical basis which influence the will of the eel farmers participate in professional cooperatives, the new institutional economics theory and transaction cost theory. Then we carried on some theoretical assumptions from eel farmers householder, eel farming business characteristics, local economic policy environment, and cooperative running four aspects of the wishes of farmers to join professional cooperatives.The fourth part mainly discussed the factors influencing the eel of the will of farmers to participate in professional cooperatives has carried on the empirical analysis. First of all, we conducted a descriptive analysis of the factors affecting the eel farmers’ willingness joining professional cooperatives respectively from eel farmers household characteristics, eel farming management features, local economic policy environment and the cooperative running. Then, we carried on the empirical analysis focusing on the logisitic bivariate regression model on the influencing factors of eel farmers to participate in professional cooperatives, which included the description of the model, the definitions of variables, the choice of measurement methods and logisitic bivariate regression model. Finally discussed the final results of regression.The fifth part is conclusion and Suggestions of this article research. First of all, we summarized the empirical study conclusion. The results through analysis of survey data and with the Logistic model show that there is a positive correlation between those factors and the intention of eel farmers to participate in professional cooperatives, which includs the eel farmers’cognition of professional cooperatives (COG), eel farming investment proportion of the total investment of agriculture (INV), the difficulties of the eel sales situation (SOD), eel PRICE fluctuations (PRICE), and cooperative operation specification (COO). There is a negetive correlation between those factors and the intention of eel farmers to participate in professional cooperatives, which includs the distance between the eel farms from the recent sale (DIS), agricultural enterprise’s service for farmers (ENT), and the support of local government policy (GOP) eels. In addition, the results also show that although the government’s support for the cooperative policy on eel farmers willingness to participate in professional cooperatives has a very significant effect. But many of the farmers are still unfamiliar with the government’s policies. Government’s policies, the lack of relevant law, policy propaganda absence makes these professional cooperatives develope slowly. Finally, according to the research conclusion of this paper, some policy suggestions were proposed. Mainly include:1, intensify propaganda, strengthen farmers cognition to professional cooperatives;2, increase the intensity of support, and promote the healthy and rapid development of professional cooperatives;3, strengthen internal operation, standardize the development of professional cooperatives, etc.
