Banking industry is the core of a modern financial system and plays a crucial role in the development of economy. Banking industry is also an industry with high risk. Outburst of bank risk easily leads to bank crisis. It not only impacts the whole banking system, but also fluctuates the whole economic system, which exerts a huge negative impact on the macro economy. Banking operation risks were divided into the credit risk, the market risk and the operational risk in the new Basel Capital Accord. For commercial banks, the operational risk is not a new word. In particular, the continuous operational risk cases and huge operational risk loss in banking industry warn commercial banks that effectively preventing and controlling the operational risk can guarantee commercial banks’orderly operation, achieve operational target and raise competitiveness. In this situation, it is extremely important and imperative for us to study the management of operational risks in commercial banks in China.As a first-class joint-stock commercial bank in China, bank A implements comprehensive teller system in order to further improve resource use efficiency of the sales network and raise comprehensive competitiveness. Implementation of comprehensive teller system is an irresistible trend for commercial banks. However, the operational risk resulting from that cannot be ignored. The paper expounds the operational risk’s definition and classification, the operational risk’s current situation and characteristics of commercial banks in China through learning and studying domestic and foreign periodicals, papers and information. In addition, the paper elaborates on the background and effect of comprehensive teller system commercial banks implemented, expounds the risk origin and necessity of comprehensive teller system of commercial banks, points out that studying the operational risk management and reducing loss event have a practical significance to the long-term development of commercial banks in China.The paper summarizes the operational risk of comprehensive teller system faces in bank A and makes several suggestions on improving the operational risk management through conducting risk analysis of actual cases in a sales department in a subsidiary bank of bank A. These suggestions involve intensifying internal control, educating and training employees, integrating comprehensive coverage and reinforcing information management.
