The Analysis Of Huanghua Port’s Influences On Regional Economy

With the faster pace of global economic integration as well as the more and more frequent trade between regions and nations, the significant effect of the ports and port cities on the national economy is increasing. Ports with their rich natural resources and convenient transportation conditions play important roles in promoting the development of hinterland economy. Meanwhile, the cities in hinterland and the development of regional economy not only provide more supply of goods for the development of ports but also enhance the competitiveness of the ports. Obviously, the port economy has already become a new growth point of regional economy.In this thesis, the relationship between HuangHua Port and the regional economy is established as the object of research. Based on the current situation of HuangHua Port, with the help of SWOT comprehensive analysis on the port, it is found out that for HuangHua Port there is not only’a unique geographical advantage but also certain interior problems; there are booming opportunities as well as great challenges.In this thesis, both qualitative and quantitative analysis are adopted as the research methods. By observing the economic changes of HuangHua and CangZhou in recent years, based on the qualitative research method, it can be concluded that the establishment and operation of HuangHua Port has played an significant role in promoting the establishment of comprehensive transportation network of port cities and hinterland regions, the formation of port-vicinity industry cluster and the employment of labor force in these regions etc. The quantative method is adopted with the purpose of finding out how much contribution did the HuangHua Port make to the economy of HuangHua, CangZhou city and even that of HeBei province. A regression mode is established to help work out the quantative contribution of HuangHua Port to port cities and its influencing mechanism, which provide theoretical basis and decision reference for HuangHua Port to realize the harmonious development of regional economy by making full use of its superior resources. It also bears very important practical and theoretical significance for researching the further construction and operation of HuangHua Port.Although with an advantageous geographical position, the economy of central and southern area of HeBei province has been developing at a slow speed because of "the coastal location, yet inland consciousness". The appearance of HuangHua Port put an end to the CangZhou’s history of having a sea, without a port. In this paper, by combining the conclusion of SWOT analysis concerning HuangHua Port with the comparison of the research achievement regarding the influence of the ports both at home and abroad on the regional economy, we can see that HuangHua Port is in the stage of rapid development. The development of HuangHua port will certainly bring about radical changes to the economy of port cities and the hinterland regions. Therefore, in this case, some suggestions are put forward in view of HuangHua Port, such as how to seize the opportunity, how to recognize the relationship between the development of port and regional economy, and realize harmonious development. It is expected that HuangHua Port and CangZhou city will really undertake the important task of promoting the economic development of central and southern area of HeBei province, stimulating the economic development of Shanxi provice, Shaanxi province and Western Inner Mongolia and become the economic center of costal regions.
