Human activities for shaping geographical environment and landscape are divided into two stages. These two phases are respectively a long agricultural and rapid urbanization. Today’s rapid urbanization has changed the pattern of the geographical environment where human activities, caused the global change of geographical environment. Land use and land cover change (LUCC) is an important component of global environmental change research. The time and space pattern of LUCC and its driving mechanism has always been an important content of LUCC research at home and abroad.At present, land use/land cover change research at home and abroad compares the quantity characteristics of land use change through remote sensing image to extract area of different types of land use change information in the study area. This type of research can only reflect the characteristics of land use change in appearance, and cannot comprehensively respond each place status and the function in the LUCC process. And it does not reflect the relationship and influence between each land use type too.Complex network technology is the rise research methods of complex systems in recent years. Using complex network technology, from the perspective of complex system to analyze the process of urban land use change, to analyze system in each individual behavior and relation between them, has certain scientific nature and feasibility.Therefore, this paper choosing complex network model as the main research method, taking Suzhou city as the study area, studied the space-time characteristics of urban land use change and its associated mechanism.This paper takes remote sensing image of Suzhou city in1980,1995,2000,2005and2010as the data source. On the basis of land use classification system, the paper gets the classification of remote sensing image by ENVI software, then gains the Suzhou land use area in different periods. Then taking the ArcGIS software as the main operating platform, the paper generates Suzhou urban land use transfer matrix. On this basis, making Suzhou city land use types as nodes, the transformation type as edges, the paper transfers Suzhou city land use matrix into a complex network structure by Ucinet software. At the same time, using Pajek software the paper gets the average shortest path, betweenness, degree of Suzhou city land use complex networks. Finally, based on the calculation results of complex network properties characteristics, the paper has conducted the system analysis the Suzhou land use/land cover space pattern transformation near for30year from individual land use type behavior, the key land use type identify and land use system stability evaluation.The main conclusions of the study are as follows:(1) By calculating the properties of transfer matrix networks, the paper gets degree different distribution of nodes in transfer matrix networks of Suzhou, which reflects the transformation of each land use type and other land types. In general, the values of the natural ecosystems and the artificial ecosystems out-degree/in-degree are relatively stable. It shows that the natural ecosystems and the artificial ecosystems of Suzhou are relative balance during this period. And separate from different periods of Suzhou out-degree or in-degree of ecosystem, its average appeared relatively large fluctuations, especially in the fluctuation in2000-2005, the grass land types as the main roll out type, it can be seen the economic of Suzhou development speed, environmental damage seriously in this period.(2) By the betweenness of the transfer matrix networks in different periods of Suzhou, it can be seen that building land, paddy field, natural water bodies and artificial water bodies are always in the top. These instructions in the past30years, the four farming class in the crucial transition matrix network diagram, control the strongest on the network. Also indicates that the LUCC processes of Suzhou mainly around the four land use types to proceed.(3) By comparing the different period of Suzhou network chart, the average shortest path is less than1.5, the land use system stability is poor, each kind of transformation direction is many. Among them, the worst system stability in1995-2000,2000-2005system stability is best. From the trend, in the1995-2005, Suzhou land use system stability showing a rising trend, the land use system is stable. But in the2005-2010average shortest path and appeared a downward trend.
