Tanzania possess some of the Africa’s and World natural and cultural wonders, and also on of the world’s famous safari destination. Despite these potentials, Tanzania has failed to become one of the top tourist destinations in Africa. Following the major reforms n its foreign tourism policies in the80s, Tourism has increased to become the second leading foreign exchange earner and third leading Foreign direct investment earner in the country. Tanzania is seeking to provide low density, high quality and high-priced tourism product but it faces many challenges on due to its situation on infrastructures, lack of trained personnel and good legal framework. In this case Tanzania failed to diversify its tourism beyond wildlife and it is always treated as an add on destination by tourists visiting neighboring Kenya. Based on this background, the author decided to choose " A study on inbound tourism market trends and characteristics in Tanzania" as the paper topic.The main purpose of the paper is to understand the situation of Tanzania tourism development, Tanzania tourism source markets characteristics, analyzing market development trends and future trends of tourism in Tanzania. The paper uses literature review and qualitative methods together in an attempt to analyze the clear picture of Tanzania tourism. Firstly the paper explores the tourism market in Tanzania by understanding the scale, organization structure, product types and characteristics, marketing situation and then through statistical data provided by relevant government institutions, the paper analyses inbound tourism market development, visitor characteristics and visitor preference using qualitative analysis method, understanding inbound tourism market in Tanzania and according to the conclusion provide some useful suggestions to the relevant institutions and Tanzania tourism board.The research significance of this paper is to make little contribution to the Tanzania tourism development research and hope the relevant Tourism stakeholder to attach important or add more emphasis on the tourism development research in Tanzania.This paper is divided into five parts, the first part on chapter one summarizes the research significance, methodology, research content and related concepts. The second part on chapter two explores Tanzania’s inbound tourism resources and supporting facilities. Part three the paper analyses inbound tourism market development and characteristics followed by part four on chapter five which also explores existing problems in inbound tourism market and development trends, the last chapter put forward countermeasures and suggestions for future proper development of Tanzania inbound tourism.
