An Exploratory Study On Several Problems Of Construction Industry Efficiency Of China

Construction industry is a pillar industry of the national economy of our country, and ithas a quite important status in the economic system. Although the construction industry hasgrown into a large scale within the certain development period, the industry efficiency is stillrelatively low, mainly marked by low technical level, huge resource consumption, low profitratio of production and improvement space for international competitiveness.This thesis studies the input-output model of the construction industry at the first placeand makes an econometric analysis of TFP on that basis to estimate contribution rates ofdifferent contributing factors to the growth of construction industry, thus reflecting the insideefficiency problem of the construction of our country. The results of econometric analysisshows that the contribution rates of labor input growth, capital input growth and TFP are55.55%,15.87%and28.75%respectively, suggesting that the growth of the constructionindustry of our country mainly comes from the growth of labor input, while the pushing effectof capital and generalized technical level is relatively smaller. The econometric analysisverifies the fact that the construction industry belongs to labor intensive industry and remainsat the stage of extensive development.The research of international competitiveness reflects the outside efficiency ofconstruction industry of our country. This part analyzes the feature of internationalconstruction market and the competiveness of our country’s international contractors on thedata collected from ENR. The result shows that although the number of internationalcontractors coming from our country is large, there is still a lack of top internationalcontractors in the international market; On the side of regional market, China has an obviousadvantage on Africa market, while the market share remains to be improved in theAsian-Pacific region and it is almost impossible to get projects in European and Americanareas; On the side of industries involved, China has set foot in nine major industries, but over90%revenue came from general building, industry/petroleum, transportation and power.The industry structure is the basic factor which influences the industry efficiency. Thisthesis uses absolute concentration, Lorenz curve and Gini Coefficient to measure the structurefeature of the construction industry, and the result shows that the construction industrybelongs to the decentralized competitive market structure and the rigidity is strong whichmeans adjustment of industry structure needs to overcome great resistance force. The GiniCoefficient of2011of construction industry of our country is0.6937, which has animprovement space compared with developed countries. At last, this thesis makes an analysis on the adjustment strategy of industry structure, and indicating that we should fix the marketenvironment, improve the industry barriers, enhance the capacity of technology innovationand financing and promote the “Go Out Policy”.
