China and Australia’s bilateral economic and trade relations began inthe middle of the20th century.Since the establishment of diplomaticrelations between the two countries in December1972, the two countrieshas made comprehensive and rapid progress in the fields of economic,technological, political and cultural cooperation.Agriculture is thefoundation of the national economy, occupies an important position inChina and Australia.China and Australia trade in agricultural productsbetween the two countries are highly complementary, they are the importantagricultural trade partners to each other. At present, china-australia freetrade negotiations was launched in April2005, negotiations can be dividedinto agriculture, non-agricultural, services and investment,and other basicfields four groups. Agricultural trade issues become the focus ofnegotiations. Under this background, China and Australia’s agriculturalproduct trade development research has the very vital significance.This article takes a qualitative and quantitative analysis method ofcombining, based on the brief description of various trade theory,analiedthe current situation of Sino-Australian trade in agricultural products andfeatures, explored the development trend of the development of the basicconditions of Sino-Australian trade in agricultural products, predicted thefuture situation of the agricultural trade between the two countries, andproposed suggestions to expand bilateral trade in agricultural products.The study found that, Sino-Australian trade in agricultural productshas a strong complementarity, while China has great potential for Australianagricultural exports.Then, use the degree of intra-industry trade, revealedcomparative advantage index analysis of the characteristics ofSino-Australian trade in agricultural products research, draw the structureof agricultural trade between the two countries with significantinter-industry trade characteristics; China’s agricultural products only in theindividual labor-intensive products occupy the the trade competitive position, and Australia in many land-intensive products showed a strongcompetitive advantage, these types of china agricultural products are at acompetitive disadvantage position; the growth of trade in agriculturalproducts on the one hand by the growing demand in the domestic market, onthe other hand, by the impact on the competitiveness of Australianagricultural products in the Chinese market at the same time.the first is thebasic condition of development of agricultural trade between the twocountries are analyzed, then has carried on the forecast to sino-australiaagricultural products trade. Finally, combined the present situation ofagricultural trade between the two countries and two countries agriculturaltrade development trend, etc., Therefore, the two countries must takemeasures to promote the Sino-Australian bilateral trade in agriculturalproducts.These measures include: taken to strengthen the Australianagricultural production and trade and consumer information to grasp andpublished, the implementation of agricultural diversification strategy,innovation and export food varieties, enhance the level of quality and safetyof agricultural products in China export of agricultural products brandstrategy to strengthen China and Australia in the field of agriculturaltechnology cooperation, and promote Sino-Australian FTA negotiationsprocess and create more favorable terms of trade for China’s exports ofagricultural products.
