With the Deepening of rural reform and the emergence of deeper problem, it is especiallyimportant to acquire rural geography situation information timely, accurately. Theimplementation of rural geography condition monitoring will help the governmentpolicy-makers real-time grasp the use, changes and development of rural land, to improve theefficiency of land use, be better to face natural disasters, Improve people’s production and life, promote the growth of the national economy, plays an important role in the maintenance ofsocial harmony and stability. The study is based on the data of Mizhi County rural geography condition monitoring, bythe method of gis spatial analysis, to explore the spatial distribution of Mizhi County arableland and rural residential, with analysising the effects of natural factors (including elevation, slope, aspect and river factor) and locational factor (including the distance of rural residents tothe cultivated land and traffic trunk) on the spatial distribution of cultivated land and ruralresidential. And analyze the local cultivated land demand based on food safety and theResidential land demand based on the state standards of rural construction land. Predict theoptimal number and the best spatial layout pattern of rural residential area and cultivated landthat fit local actual condition. Finally comparative analysis this layout mode with the layoutmode of cultivated land and residential in the general plans for land use.Providing technicalsupport and practical advice for the new round of land-use planning.Research suggests:(1) Mizhi County is located in gully region of the loess plateau, terrain is complex, agricultural production is its dominical part, the quality of arable land ispoor, distribution is scattered, the soil erosion is serious, farming phenomenon of high slope, shady aspect land is serious. Based on the characteristics of county land layout, through theanalysis of slope, aspect, the potential of arable land and the prediction of cultivated land based on food safety. The prediction results of Mizhi County land was44162.53hectares.(2)The distribution of residential is scattered, land use scale is too large, far more than the statestandards of rural construction land, terrain factor and rivers factor is the macro backgroundof geography that affects the spatial distribution of rural residents, the distance of ruralresidents to the cultivated land and traffic trunk is important Location factors that affects thespatial distribution of rural residents. Through comprehensive analysis of these factors on theresidential.Taking into account the quantity demand of national standard of residents.Theprediction results of Mizhi rural residents is1621.64hectares.(3)The overlay comparativeanalysis result of the spatial prediction results of cultivated land and rural residential and thecorresponding layers in general plans for land use show:the layout of this study for cultivatedland and residential layers, and take natural factors and locational factor into fullconsideration, which can provide the basis for new general plans for land use, make up for itsshortcomings. In the new study that is expected to join more social economic factors andhumanism elements, to improve the practicality and feasibility value.
