The terminology of big data has been the hotspot of the public and media since the advent of web 2.0 and cloud computing, which has also become the heated issue of academic and industrial circles. Under the reform led by the so-called “data myth”, it seems that “big data” can solve many problems at a stroke, which leads to everyone chasing for it and the whole society regrading the “big data” as an equivalent to innovation. The sudden popularity of such a broad concept of “big data” catches all the attention and makes other things less important, however, people still have confusions of “big data” and more severely, even researchers have little understanding of the characteristic of current research of big data.This research mainly adopts quantitative and qualitative method. We make the China Academic Journal Network Publishing Database of CNKI as our information source, retrieving 5442 documents relating to big data by crawling their subjects and keywords. After processing the valid data, we make a investigation into our issue. In the first place, we sort out the conception of big data by making a thorough literature review.Secondly, we adopt the quantitative method to discuss the progress and quality of researches on big data and analyse the academic attention on this emerging field. Then we explore research hotspots by using high-frequency keywords distribution and cluster analysis. we also make a description of the dynamic development progress of research hotspots with the help of social network analysis. Last but not least, we classify the types of researches by employing content analysis method.Based on the above analysis, the thesis find out the non-data-orienting feature and the generalization phenomenon of “big data” conception. On the other hand, the amount of domestic researches on big data has jumped exponentially, indicating that various disciplines have delve into this area and make an extensive study on the conception,technology, characteristic and application of big data. In this thesis, we classify 8categories of research hotspots in big data and clarify the features of these researches ranging from the concrete-level study on its technology to the more macro-level discussion of its future impact and application. However, there is no denying that the lack of and down-to- earth practical research and media hype in this area hinges the development of big data.
