Since human entered the information society, as an important instrument the signal test equipment support communication technology to update and upgrade. With the continuous development of communication technology, the demand for the signal instrument began to diversify. When the second generation ADSL technologies was used and it is required for signal testing instrument with the characteristics of wide bandwidth and multiple functions and so on. The integrated circuit industry developed by leaps and bounds. That’s bring a large number of FPGA, DSP and DAC and ADC chips. The chip’s integrated degree is high, the power consumption is low, the performance is excellent, which also reinforces hardware foundation of new signal instrument research and development.In this paper, based on Xilinx K-7 series FPGA platform, communications-specific processor SD5133 as the main chip, with TI’s digital to analog chip DAC38J84 and analog to digital chip ADS58J80 etc., a multi-funtional and large-bandwidth signal instrument has been designed. With the VxWorks system, the communications software based on TCP / IP protocol has been designed. By this software the signal instrument is able to communicate with the PC and configure the channel parameters. In the Xilinx K-7 series FPGA-based platform, some modules have been designed, such as the LocalBus2 i Bus, 204B_rx, 204B_tx, iBus2 RAM, iBus2 SPI and PS load modules. Using the processor bus architecture the JESD204 B commercial IP core has been integrated with various interfaces in the FPGA to achieve high-speed data transfer and storage, to improve the portability of the logic module.The final test of the signal instrument shows that the signal bandwidth in a plurality of channel is up to 212 MHz and the signal instrument supports DPD algorithm validation. The multi-funcitonal signal instrumen can be used to test the second generation of ADSL technology.
