Spectrum resource utilization and radio interference issues have become increasingly prominent in recent years, which affect the communication quality of the wireless signals. In order to ensure the normal operation of the wireless communication system, the efficient utilization of the scarce spectrum resources, and maintain order in radio waves, the efforts to achieving of analysis and monitoring wireless communications signals is meaningful. That is what has been done in this paper. The theme of this paper is about design and implementation of a GSM/WCDMA/LTE signal monitoring and analysis system which is using virtual instrument technology. The main research work is listed below.Firstly, the basic principle and signal characteristics of GSM/WCDMA/LTE are introduced. It’s about physical/logical communications channels, spectrum resources allocated to channels, the structure of frame, coding and multiplexing, modulation and other technologies related to signal characteristics. On this basis, the work on signal analysis is carried on.Secondly, a comprehensive and efficient monitoring system model is proposed. The model focuses on not only time domain analysis, frequency domain analysis but also modulation/demodulation analysis in order to achieve the goal of comprehensive analysis of the wireless signal, which is different from general monitoring system. At the same time, the definition, analysis process and algorithm of the analytic items are studied.Thirdly, the hardware platform using PXIe modular instrument of the GSM/WCDMA/LTE online monitoring and analysis system is studied and the hardware system is constructed. Many PXIe modular instruments are adopted to meet the system performance, including vector signal analyzer PXIe 5663, which is the core of the hardware system, Antenna and so on. Meanwhile, the works of the PXI instrument and internal composition are talked about and the driver program is given.Fourthly, the design and implementation of the online monitoring and analysis system using virtual instrument technology and PXIe platform.The characteristics of the system are listed:(1)Open architecture. Three separate analysis engines are designed for GSM/WCDMA/LTE in an open architecture which ensures the system is extensible. (2) Parallel structure. Using LabVIEW multithreaded programming techniques, the system is divided into different sub-tasks according to system requirement. (3) Modular programming. Several modules including controller module, analysis engine module, data storage module, report module and error-handling module are coding separately one by one.Last but not least, system verification. After achieving the construction of the online monitoring and analysis system, GSM/WCDMA/LTE signals are tested separately to prove the validity and effectiveness of the system and comparative analysis is done too. And then a summary of this thesis and a future research prospect are made.
